Job Title: Physician Assistant Emergency Medicine (Overage)

Location: Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center (MOMMC), Nellis AFB, NV, 89191Tentative Start Date: 01 Oct 2026

No. of FTEs Required: 1 FTE

Work Schedule: 24/7 operations schedule consisting of 10-hour shifts not to exceed 40 scheduled hours per week. Includes overage support requirements of up to 50 hours annually. No on-call requirements.

Duty Hours: 24/7 operations schedule with rotating 10-hour shifts based on Emergency Department operational requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Graduate Physician Assistant qualified through academic and practical education to provide patient services as a physician extender under physician supervision.
    • Graduate of a Physician Assistant Training Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), or its predecessors, acceptable to the Surgeon General, USAF.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 24 months of experience as a Physician Assistant within the last 36 months.
    • At least 12 months of Emergency Department or Urgent Care experience is preferred.
    • Experience in emergency medicine or urgent care clinical settings.
  • License/Certification:
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
    • Current, full, active, and unrestricted Physician Assistant license in a State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
    • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide primary and emergency medical care under the supervision or cognizance of a physician.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage emergent, urgent, acute, and chronic medical conditions presenting to the Emergency Department.
  • Perform patient histories, physical examinations, and emergency medical assessments.
  • Formulate differential diagnoses and order appropriate laboratory, radiology, and diagnostic studies.
  • Interpret examination findings and diagnostic test results and implement treatment plans.
  • Stabilize and manage medical and surgical emergencies within approved clinical privileges.
  • Recognize complex cases requiring physician or specialty consultation and coordinate referrals as appropriate.
  • Determine appropriate emergency evacuation methods and coordinate evacuation support activities.
  • Provide preventive care, patient counseling, and follow-up recommendations.
  • Admit patients in accordance with MTF procedures and local instructions.
  • Answer patient telephone consults and coordinate patient care with clinic staff and providers.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation within approved electronic health record systems.
  • Clearly communicate clinical findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans to healthcare personnel and patients.
  • Identify and report conditions with public health significance and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Participate in overage coverage requirements to support continuity of emergency medical operations.
  • Maintain compliance with MTF medical staff bylaws, patient safety standards, infection control policies, and regulatory requirements.
