Full Job Description

    GENERAL SUMMARY
      Under the direction of the Division of Neonatology, the Neonatal Physician Assistant (NPA) provides medical management of neonatal patients with a variety of diagnoses in the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or other locations at CHKD or in contracted facilities where NICU and/or general nursery patients are cared for. Reports to supervising physician(s) and the NICU Operations Manager.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Demonstrates excellence in practice characterized by quality patient care and participation in formal and informal patient and staff education.
    • Performs a complete history and physical on new admissions and daily examinations, and documents findings in the medical record.
    • Generates problem lists and differential diagnoses based on clinical findings.
    • Creates a comprehensive treatment plan including ordering laboratory, diagnostic testing and medications as indicated.
    • Effectively utilizes healthcare resources and communicates with other members of the healthcare team to provide family support, discharge planning, and participates in the Neonatal Follow-up Clinic at CHKD.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Current state licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia, required.
    • Current NCCPA certification, required.
    • Current prescriptive authority from the licensure Board of Medicine from the Commonwealth of Virginia and DEA registration from the Drug Enforcement Administration, required.
    • Required to maintain State Licensure, certification, and educational and application requirements as a Physician Assistant during employment.
    • CPR and NRP training to be obtained and maintained within 45 days of hire.
    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Must have completed an accredited Physician Assistant Master’s Degree Program.
    • At least one year of Physician Assistant experience in a Neonatal setting, preferred.
    • Execution of Non-Competition, Confidentiality and Non-Solicitation Agreement for Specialty hired into.
    • Ability to travel locally between facilities.
    • Must provide a record of a completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing complexity testing.
    WORKING CONDITIONS
      Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
