Division of Emergency Medicine

The Emergency Department at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters is part of the region’s only free-standing pediatric hospital and only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, the emergency department cares for children presenting after trauma, with medical emergencies, acute and chronic illness. A dedicated team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and emergency technicians care for over 50,000 children per year. The Division of Emergency Medicine is recruiting physician assistants and pediatric nurse practitioners interested in joining a dynamic team of providers for a long-term commitment. We currently have opportunities for advanced practice providers in the main treatment and minor care area within the Emergency Department.

Minor Care Area Position (Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant)

Responsibilities:

The APP is responsible for the assessment and care of patients presenting with acute illness, asthma exacerbation, mild dehydration, and orthopedic injuries. Upon completion of orientation, the nurse practitioner is expected to demonstrate competency in incision and drainage; foreign body removal ear, nose, skin; repair of scalp and simple skin laceration. Candidates should possess a strong work ethic and enjoy working with team members to deliver efficient quality patient care.

On a monthly basis, the APP will be scheduled as an Up-Front Provider for a portion of their required clinical shifts. Responsibilities of the UFP include medical management and discharge of patients requiring minimal treatment, assist the triage nurse with monitoring waiting room patients, initiate orders and power plans on waiting room patients, and culture follow up.

Hours:

130 hours per month

Qualifications: Must have completed an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant program. Minimum of one year experience as a Pediatric Advance Practice Provider. Clinical experience in an Emergency Department, Urgent Care or Critical Care preferred.
