Full Job Description

The Division of General Internal Medicine of the University of Utah’s School of Medicine is looking for motivated candidates who are interested in academic medicine to enter Advance Practice Clinician Hospitalist program. This position is responsible for providing inpatient care. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions:

  • Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation by academic and community physicians.
  • Performs physical examinations.
  • Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Orders and supervises the administration of blood products.
  • Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.
  • Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physician to provide optimal patient medical management.
  • Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
  • Assists in the collection of data for research projects.
  • Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.
  • Participates in special projects and committee functions.
Problem Solving:
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
  • Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures manual.

Minimum Qualifications
Required:

  • Current licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant from the State of Utah.
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Preferred:

  • Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
