Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced physician assistant to join our team as a Wound Care Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive assessment, treatment, and management of patients with acute and chronic wounds. The ideal candidate will combine clinical expertise with a patient-centered approach to deliver optimal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
· Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including wound evaluation, medical history review, and physical examinations
· Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients with various wound types, including pressure injuries, diabetic ulcers, venous/arterial ulcers, and surgical wounds
· Perform wound debridement, dressing applications, and other advanced wound care procedures
· Order and interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory studies related to wound healing and infection
· Prescribe medications, including antibiotics and pain management therapies, as appropriate
· Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in electronic health records
· Educate patients and caregivers on wound care techniques, prevention strategies, and self-management
· Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and nutritionists
· Participate in quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice implementation
· Stay current with the latest advancements in wound care therapies and technologies
· Provide consultation services to other healthcare providers regarding complex wound cases
Qualifications
· Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program, master’s degree required, and currently certified by NCCPA
· Current, active license to practice as a physician assistant in the state of Ohio
· Wound Care Certification preferred (CWS, CWCN, CWON, or equivalent), or willingness to obtain certification within the first 12 months
· Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in wound care or related specialty
· Strong knowledge of evidence-based wound care practices and current treatment modalities
· Experience with negative pressure wound therapy, compression therapy, and advanced wound dressings
· Excellent assessment, diagnostic, and clinical decision-making skills
· Proficiency with electronic health record systems
· Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the healthcare team
Additional Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in outpatient wound care clinic settings
· Knowledge of hyperbaric oxygen therapy
· Familiarity with vascular assessment techniques
· Background in diabetic foot care management
· Experience with telemedicine or remote wound monitoring
