  • Highland Hospital is growing its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) APP Coverage! We are seeking a Full Time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (APP) to join its team. Candidates for this role would work a 50/50 Day/Night split. Potential schedule would look as follows:

Full Time, 1.0FTE

50% nights, 50% days

Twelve hr shifts (7am -7pm or 7 pm – 7am) 3x/week

  • Candidates for this role would be required to pick up 8 extra shifts per year as part of this schedule

2-3 Holidays per year

4 weekend shifts per month (If an employee worked Saturday and Sunday, that would be 2 of the 4 requirements)

Some duties include but are not limited to:

Medical coverage in the ICU, evaluation & management of intensive care unit patients covered by the critical care team. The ICU PA/NP (provider) reports to the ICU Medical Director for clinical and administrative issues pertaining to the ICU. For broader administrative issues the Chief of Medicine should be consulted. The attending critical care physician on service is available for consultation regarding specific patient related problems. The attending of record should be informed of any significant change in a patient’s clinical status.

The primary task will be medical coverage in the ICU. Primary duties are evaluation and management of intensive care unit patients covered by the critical care team, or those on a medical or cardiology service.

Admit patients to the ICU, document a full physical examination, and a complete, systems-based assessment and plan in the EMR. Admission orders and serial assessment of the patient are also necessary. The ICU provider will consult with specialists, attendings, and pharmacists as required. The ICU provider writes all orders on ICU patients.

  • Attend all codes in the hospital.
  • Writes orders on all the ICU patients.
  • Informing and consulting with the attending physician of record about any significant change in the clinical condition of their patients.
  • Urgent pulmonary consultations on the hospital floors or in the emergency department. These services should be staffed by the on-call Pulmonary Medicine attending physician.
  • Taking sign-outs from the ICU team at the beginning of the shift and providing sign-outs at the end of the shift. This often requires at least an additional 30 minutes, after the defined work period has ended.

The ICU provider performs procedures including phlebotomy, intravenous line placement, nasogastric tube and feeding tube insertion, lumbar puncture, paracentesis, thoracentesis, arterial

puncture for performance of ABG, urinary catheterization, ventilator management (initial settings, trouble shooting, weaning), and cardioversion. The ICU provider should also be able to perform central venous and arterial lines, and supervise the code team. Pulmonary artery catheter placement and intubation should only be performed under the supervision of senior physicians or credentialed providers.

Salary Range:

$98,000.00 – $130,083.20 annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Job Requirements

1.Education: Graduate of an approved PA or NP program and nationally certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners.

2.Experience: Two to five years in-patient or ICU or critical care PA/NP experience. Demonstrated autonomy and competency managing critically ill patients and excellent problem solving ability. Able to independently perform some invasive procedures. Demonstrated leadership experience in coordinating clinical services for acutely ill patients.

3. License/Certification Required: ACLS certified. Stroke Certification required within one year of hire.

4. Skills: Proficiency in central venous and arterial access. Management and resuscitation of unstable patients. Management of respiratory failure including proficiency with standard modes of mechanical ventilation.
