Job Description

  • The Inpatient Physician Assistant functions as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to both well and ill patients in an inpatient setting. He/she demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in working with patients with acute and chronic illnesses commonly encountered in an inpatient setting.
  • Post operative cardiac and thoracic surgery patients will include – ECMO, IABP, Impella and preoperative surgical evaluations
  • Managing patients in Cardiac Critical Care and Cardiothoracic ICU environments, including post-open-heart surgery and cardiac step-down care
  • Performing and managing advanced procedures, including:
  • Central and arterial line insertions
  • Chest tube and pigtail placement and management
  • Emergency sternotomy (reopening the sternum in critical post-operative events)
  • Managing ventilators, hemodynamics, and post-operative recovery for cardiac surgery patients
  • Collaborating with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Handling admissions, post-operative rounding, and ongoing patient management
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, or ICU.
  • Candidates should be available for nights, weekends, holidays.

Education And Experience

  • Graduate of accredited program with Current NYS Physician Assistant Licensure and Active Board Certification
  • Active DEA license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire
  • CPR certification and advanced life support certifications if relevant to practice area (ACLS, PALS, NRP) required.
