Full Job Description

Job Summary: EHMC is seeking a Per Diem NURSE PRACTITIONER (APRN) or PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT (PA) to join a very enthusiastic team in the cardiothoracic surgery office. The ideal candidate would excel in communication, interpersonal skills, precise documentation, and clinical expertise. The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at EHMC currently performs roughly 400-500 adult cardiac and thoracic surgical cases per year, and is experiencing steady growth. The duties of the office PA/NP include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs and documents a complete medical history and physical exam for patients in consultation.
  • Performs clinical assessment and documents findings of post-operative CT surgery patients including wound checks, suture removals, dressing changes and 30 day follow up visits.
  • Orders, interprets, and documents pre-admission testing data; counsels patients and their families on all aspects of peri-operative therapies. Performs pre-operative teaching where necessary.
  • Directly communicates with referring and consulting physicians.
  • Fields telephone calls from patients, their families, visiting nurses, acute and sub-acute rehabilitation facilities when their questions concern the management of cardiothoracic patients.
  • Renews prescription medications, orders outpatient tests or facilitates disability forms for patients.

  • 1-2 years of experience in Cardiac surgery preferred, office experience preferred.

  • License/Certification/Registry:
  • If Nurse Practitioner (APRN): Current NJ State Advanced Practice Nurse License, current BLS and ACLS, current CDS and DEA licenses.
  • If Physician Assistant (PA): Current NJ PA license and certification by NCCPA, current BLS and ACLS, current CDS and DEA licenses.
