Job Description:

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
  • Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
  • Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
  • Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
  • Refers for specialty care when determined.
  • Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Physician Assistant scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear.
  • Promotes communication within the team and other interdisciplinary health care staff.
  • Acts as resource to members of the team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree – Completion of accredited Physician Assistant program

Preferred Qualifications:

  • New Graduates may be considered. Prefer a minimum 2 years experience in oncology/thoracic surgery.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Master’s degree completion of accredited Physician Assistant program required.
  • Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA) – National Commission Certification of Physician Assistants within specialty upon hire required.
  • MN PA license or ability to obtain.
  • BLS certification required within 180 days of hire.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration upon hire required.

Physical Demands:

Medium Work*: Lifting weight Up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), Up to 25 lbs. frequently

Additional Job Description:

The Allina Health Cancer Institute is seeking a Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant to join the practice.

  • Full-time position. Monday-Friday position. This role will practice at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis and United Hospital in St. Paul.
  • Team includes 3 Thoracic Surgeons and 2 Physician Assistants.
  • The role includes clinic, inpatient and the OR.
