Importantly, the Institute oversees cancer care across the entire health system, ensuring that consistently exceptional outcomes are delivered in any setting where patients access cancer care. This model – tested and refined nationally at other large “hybrid” cancer programs –provides high-quality cancer care close to home.
Job Description:

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
  • Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
  • Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
  • Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
  • Refers for specialty care when determined.
  • Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Physician Assistant scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear.
  • Promotes communication within the team and other interdisciplinary health care staff.
  • Acts as resource to members of the team

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree – Completion of accredited Physician Assistant program

Preferred Qualifications:

  • New Graduates may be considered. Prefer a minimum of 2 years experience in surgical oncology.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Licensed Physician Assistant – MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire.
  • ACLS-BLS certification required within 180 days of hire.
  • Certification as Physician Assistant – NCCPA -National Commission Certification of Physician Assistants upon hire required.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration upon hire required.

Additional Job Description:

Allina Health Cancer Institute is seeking a Surgical Oncology Physician Assistant to join the practice. This role will provide services in the east region of the Twin Cities within the communities of St. Paul and the surrounding areas.

  • Team includes 3 physicians and 2 physician assistants.
  • Will participate in the high-risk breast clinic and see benign breast patients in clinic. In addition, will participate in long term follow-up clinic of cancer patients.
  • Rounding in the hospital on surgical oncology patients and seeing consultants Monday- Friday.
  • Assist in the OR with cases. Breast and other surgical oncology as needed. Will learn how to assist with robotic cases.
  • Position is Monday- Friday plus weekend call 1 in every 8 weekends on Saturday and Sunday (4 hours each day).
  • Position may provide coverage at other locations
