Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – Medical Consultant (Independent Contractor)
Location: Forest View Behavioral Hospital – Grand Rapids, MIAffiliation: Mooney Medical Group, PLLCSchedule: Rotating coverage (3–5 days/week, including weekends as part of shared 7-day rotation)Compensation: $60 per admission (H&P) + $40 per medical complaint visit + weekday mileage reimbursement + optional home weekend call coverage (reimbursement and days negotiable) + must be available for call while onsite
Mooney Medical Group, PLLC is seeking a Family Medicine Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide medical consultation and oversight for adult and adolescent patients at Forest View Behavioral Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
This position focuses exclusively on medical (non-psychiatric) care within a behavioral health hospital setting. Nurse Practitioners perform admission H&Ps, evaluate acute and chronic medical complaints, and collaborate closely with psychiatry and nursing teams to maintain patient stability and safety.Psychiatric management is handled entirely by the facility’s psychiatry team.
You’ll join a physician-led medical consulting group that staffs multiple behavioral hospitals statewide, offering clinical autonomy, predictable workflow, and flexible scheduling.
- Active Michigan license as a Nurse Practitioner (FNP, AGNP, IMNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C).
- Current DEA license (or eligibility) for prescribing controlled substances.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in family medicine, internal medicine, hospital medicine, or urgent care settings preferred.
- Proficient in performing and documenting comprehensive H&Ps, managing acute medical complaints, and coordinating care with attending physicians and nursing staff.
- Strong ability to evaluate complex medical cases, perform diagnostic assessments, and determine appropriate treatment or specialist referral when indicated.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills for collaboration with physicians, hospital staff, and administrative teams.
- Capable of working independently under physician supervision, following established clinical protocols and medical director oversight.
- Reliable completion of documentation and EMR charting consistent with facility standards and medical compliance guidelines.
- Must meet all Michigan state requirements for PA/NP practice, including collaborative or supervisory agreements where applicable.
- Experience in high-acuity or consultative environments (e.g., urgent care, emergency medicine, or inpatient medicine) is strongly valued.
This is an independent contractor (1099) role within a 7-day coverage model. NPs typically work 2–5 shifts per week, rotating with other providers to maintain daily hospital coverage year-round.
· Forest View Behavioral Hospital requires continuous medical coverage (365 days/year).
· Nurse Practitioners work rotating 3–7 day schedules to ensure 7‑day coverage.
· The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) operates Monday–Friday; mileage reimbursement is weekday‑only.
Typical daily caseload: ~12 admissions (H&Ps) and ~4 medical consults, including PHP site visit on weekdays
Estimated Total Compensation (Based on encounter averages):
- 3 days/week: ~$112K – $150K annually
- 4 days/week: ~$149K – $187K annually
- 5 days/week: ~$185K – $245K annually
