Job Title: Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant – Cardiothoracic

Location: 22101 Moross Road Detroit, MI 48236

Department: Cardiothoracic

Reports To: Supervising Physician

Inpatient/Outpatient: 100% inpatient

Position Overview:

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will play a vital role in the comprehensive care of patients undergoing cardiothoracic procedures. This position involves managing patient care from preoperative assessments through postoperative recovery, ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and quality care. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical expertise in cardiac care, effective communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered practices.

No new graduates.

Preferred, 1 Year of ICU/cardiology experience.

Procedures – Pre/post orders for cardiothoracic procedures.

Schedule – Flexible, can be 4, 10-hour shifts or 5, 8-hour shifts. With 10-hours, they would like APP to start at 8a or 9a and work until 630p/730p.

Weekend requirement – Typically 1 weekend per month, potentially could be 1 weekend every 5 weeks.

Call requirement – No, but there is a weekend rotation for covering the service, see above.

OR Time – 1, possibly 2 days per week.

In collaboration with a physician, provides for the expansion of individualized primary healthcare services by diagnosing and treating certain acute or chronic health conditions. Responsibilities: Obtains patient history and performs assessment via observation, interview and examination. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies. Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and patient care.| Provides direct treatment and management of health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.| Counsels and educates patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.| Documents delivery of health care and nursing processes in accordance with specific specialty area standards and network nursing policy.

Qualifications:

  • NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)
  • PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
  • NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan
  • PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Licensure and Certification

  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application)
  • National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • DEA/CSL, required through credentialing.

Experience

  • Proficiency in surgical assisting techniques and perioperative patient management
  • Outstanding APP experience with a lot of autonomy
  • EPIC Experience, preferred.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
