Full Job Description

The Physician Assistant I/II (PA) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner for Neurosurgery operates within the acute care hospital setting, collaborating with a dynamic team of neurosurgeons, residents, and PAs in an enriching academic hospital environment. This role entails no night shifts, no on-call duty, and no OR requirements. Responsibilities encompass inpatient care, patient education, collaboration with consulting specialists, maintaining communication and cooperation with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, and precepting PA students. The primary focus is on adult patients with various neurosurgical conditions, including spinal disease, tumors/cancer, hydrocephalus, cerebrovascular disease, neurotrauma, and stereotactic/functional neurosurgery. The PA plays a pivotal role in the care team, offering a unique opportunity to join a leading neurosurgical academic medical center team.

Shifts: Full-time (40 hours)

Key Accountabilities:

  • Evaluates patients’ health conditions to provide safe, comprehensive clinical care.
  • Applies evidence-based medicine to improve outcomes for patients and their families.
  • Advances the knowledge of the inter-professional team through leading training and development programs to enhance healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
  • Continuously evaluates the relationships among access, cost, quality, safety, and their influence on healthcare outcomes.
  • Provides leadership in translating new knowledge and evidence-based care into practice.
  • Considers the developmental level of patients when conveying health information to support positive health outcomes.
  • Demonstrates understanding of internal and external practice rules, regulations, and legislation to maintain compliance and certification.
  • Advocates for patients’ needs across the healthcare continuum to ensure the best patient/family experience and advance pediatric health within the community served.
  • Integrates ethical principles into decision-making processes.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a Physician Assistant Program or Masters of Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Licensure: Current Maryland licensure as a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, along with CDS (prescription) and DEA licensure.
  • Current BLS CPR – Healthcare provider and ACLS certification (AHA or Red Cross accepted) (Pediatrics).
  • Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership Systems (PECOS) enrollment required for Medicare ordering purposes.
  • Work Experience: At least 2 years of PA work experience required to be considered a PA II.
