Full Job Description
This is a 9-month, full-time fellowship with eligibility of hire with an additional 3 months of training upon successful completion of the APP fellowship and match to a unit of hire in an inpatient or intensive care capacity. The APP Fellowship experience will build competency in episodic and longitudinal cardiac care via didactic classes, hands –on, direct care experiences across all units, simulation, presentations and a Capstone Project.
The APP Fellows will train with physicians and APPs, and integrate with members of the multidisciplinary team. APP Fellows will be supported by a core team of faculty, APP liaisons, preceptors, and mentors.
Fellowship start date: July 2026
Key Responsibilities
- Provide care to infants, children, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease in inpatient acute, ICU and ambulatory settings (to provide a broad experience to build competency).
- Collaborate with the physician or designee to conduct patient assessment and medical history, physical exams, and to diagnose health and developmental problems, form a treatment plan and evaluate outcomes.
- Care for patients with both acute and chronic disease by managing therapeutic regimens according to approved guidelines.
- Exposure to procedures such as chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, central line placement, and endotracheal intubation.
- Schedule: 40 hours/week, day/evening and night rotation, and up to every 3rd weekend during Fellowship. Rotation up to 50% nights and up to every 3rd weekend upon completion of Fellowship.
Minimal Qualifications
Education
- Recent graduate (less than 12 months) from accredited Master of Physician Assistant Studies or MSN /NP or DNP Program.
Experience
- A strong desire to pursue a career in acute/inpatient pediatric cardiology including the care of adults with congenital heart disease.
- 2 years of healthcare experience with preference for prior pediatric acute care setting preferred.
- Candidates with more experience who are new to pediatric cardiology may be considered.
Licensure/Certifications
- PA, PNP or FNP Board Certification
- Massachusetts PA or NP license prior to starting fellowship
- MCSR and DEA upon hire
- BLS upon hire
- PALS & ACLS certification within 3 months of hire.
