Summary of Responsibilities
The Program Director and Department Chair assumes leadership and management responsibilities for the Department of Physician Assistant. This position is responsible for departmental organization and administration to include admissions, budget, personnel, program development, faculty development, course scheduling, and strategic planning; oversight of activities related to ongoing program assessment and accreditation; and general effectiveness of the programs and faculty. The Program Director and Department Chair is responsible for guiding the scholarly activity of the department and for promoting collaborative scholarship and inter-professional educational programs within the College of Health Professions. The Program Director and Department Chair is also responsible for carrying out the regular duties of a faculty member related to teaching, student advising, scholarly activities, and service to the university and community so long as those duties do not comprise more than 20% of the PD/Chair’s time. As a member of the college’s Executive Council, the Program Director/Chair must be fully engaged in the adaptive challenges facing the college.
Minimum Education
Graduate of an accredited PA program
Minimum Experience
- 3 years of full-time experience in higher education in faculty or administrative role
- 2 years of teaching experience in an academic or health related setting
- Demonstrated organizational leadership
- Demonstrated successful experience working with teams
- Computer competency;

Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Knowledge of Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physical Assistant (ARC-PA) requirements for national program accreditation
- Knowledge of current NCCPA certification requirements
- Knowledge of the licensure requirements for PA’s with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to work with a diverse community

- Greater than three year’s full-time experience in higher education in faculty or administrative role
- Record of successful scholarship commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor
- Prior university academic departmental administration at the graduate or undergraduate level;
- Evidence of effective leadership and management skills;
Regular Hours of Work
8:00 am – 5: 00 pm Monday-Friday. Occasional evenings & weekends

Proposed Job Duties
Responsibility / Duty
1. Provide direct supervision and oversight of activities of medical director, principal and instructional faculty and administrative staff.
2. Provide effective leadership and management to the Program faculty and staff.
3. Provide responsible fiscal management and oversight of Program resources, including contracts with outside vendors and agencies.
4. Plan and direct activities of the Program in accordance with the mission and goals of the Program, college and university.
5. Be knowledgeable of standards for program accreditation and ensure that the Program remains in compliance with all standards for continuing accreditation through ARC-PA.
6. Ensure that a program of continuous review and analysis of program effectiveness is ongoing and effective.
7. Carry out the responsibilities of course instructor as needed during the didactic phase of the program.
8. Direct and oversee faculty and staff evaluation and development.
9. Provide oversight of the Program curriculum planning and development.
10. Serve as Chair of the Admissions and Progressions Committee of the PA program.
11. Conduct regular meetings of the faculty.
12. Represent the department on the College of Health Professions Executive Council.
13. Act as a representative of the program at public and community relations activity as needed.
14. Represent the program at on site evaluation visits of new and established rotation sites.
15. Oversee development of departmental/program policies and procedures.
16. Participate in student counseling and advising.
17. Participate in clinical teaching and simulation activities in all phases of the program
18. Conduct research/scholarship in the department.
