HRR is a contracted medical group through the Department of Veteran Affairs, to contract medical providers to perform one-time compensation & pension and pre-discharge, examinations for our country’s veterans and/or service members.

We’re Looking for Compassionate Healthcare Professionals in Hawaii

Are you a board-certified Nurse Practitioner, Medical Doctor, or Physician Assistant looking for an opportunity to have a significant impact on the lives of our service members? We’re seeking dedicated professionals in the state of Hawaii to join our mission.

In this role, you will conduct a variety of general medicine, occupational, and disability health examinations details about the exams are below:

  • Exams are one-time appointments.
  • The exams involve no treatment, follow-up exams and/or writing of prescriptions
  • Depending on the specialty exam required, the appointments can range between 30-90 minutes.
  • Appointments are scheduled approximately 5 to 7 days from the time HRR calls you. You may see as many or as few appointments per week that you would like, you set the pace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

– Completing Veterans Benefits Administration Disability Benefit Questionnaires (DBQs)

– Reviewing medical history and associated records

– Interpreting clinical data

– Completing written reports and generating independent medical opinions (IMO)

– The examinations must be completed in-person (in a clinic setting).

– Documentation will be submitted via a web-based system.

– Collaboration with other professional and support staff as needed and communication with internal and client team members in determining the most effective and evidence-based way forward on behalf of the examinee population.

– You will also have the ability to travel to provide physical examinations for veterans and service members in multiple locations throughout the Hawaiian Islands.

Compensation and Benefits:

There are over 85 different DBQ forms, some service members have 1 or 2 conditions, while others could have more (depends on claimants conditions and specialty required). When scheduling HRR staff will let you know upfront how many conditions the service member/veteran has, and this is the basis for payment.

The sample payment structure is listed below:

Reimbursement is based on the number of forms completed and the type of exam.

#of DBQ Sample NP/PA FEE:

1-5 $90-$150

6-10 $140-$230

11-15 $225-$350

16+ $380-$550

*Exact rates per exam type will be provided upon interview

Competencies:

  • Demonstrates compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service and care to the claimants.
  • From a primary care perspective, be able to fully assess examinee health status through physical examinations.
  • Collaborative, best proactive and informed standard of care-centric, decision-making skills
  • Analytical ability necessary to evaluate and determine medical opinions.
  • Technically competent with computers/tablets to include proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and using Electronic Medical Records
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety concepts and OSHA regulations
  • All VHA examinations performed for HRR can be performed by a state licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner as long as the state requirements are being met.
  • The PA/NP must be able to perform PAP’s, breast, pelvic, rectal and snellen exams.
  • All Male PA/NP working for HRR must have a female medical assistant in the exam room while performing PAP, pelvic and rectal exams on female claimants.

Education and/or Experience: (includes certificate & licenses)

  • Unrestricted State medical licensure without limitations to perform full scope of authorized practice.
  • Education and training in an US accredited, post baccalaureate (Masters) course of study and – Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
  • Specialty/sub-specialty clinical experience is valued but not required.
  • Experience conducting occupational/disability medical examinations preferred but not required.
  • Receive a medical clearance.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract

Pay: $50.00 – $62.00 per hour

Expected hours: 1 – 40 per week
