The CSU Health Network (CSUHN) at Colorado State University provides a full range of cost-effective mental health and primary care medical services on campus, referral for community specialty care, and comprehensive health education and prevention services programming. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Psychiatric Physician Assistant – PRN is a Temporary Hourly position, works a schedule of 0-40 hours per week, and works a variable schedule with no guaranteed hours.
- Possession of a master’s degree or higher as an advanced practice nurse or physician assistant
- Possession of a current DEA number for authorization of prescriptive privileges, or the ability to obtain one by the start date
- Possession of Colorado Prescriptive Authority
- Possession of a current Colorado Medical License, or the ability to obtain one by the start date
- Two years of experience working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant with psychiatric certification in a family, adult or college setting with a broad range of clinical experience in mental health care
- Certified by the ANCC as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner; or NCCPA as a Psychiatric Physician Assistant by having completed the certificate of added qualification (CAQ) in Psychiatry
- Three years of experience working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant with psychiatric certification in a family, adult or college setting with a broad range of clinical experience in mental health care
- Experience or willingness to work in an integrated health care setting
- Experience working with an electronic health record system
- Experience working with a young adult/college aged population
- Experience working with ADHD, depression, anxiety disorder and bipolar disorder
- Comfort working with patients with moderately complex mental health needs
- Knowledge, experience and willingness to work with diverse populations and historically marginalized populations
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary health care team
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with policies of the CSU Health Network, Colorado State University, state, federal and HIPAA requirements
- Ability to advance the department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion
- Interest in the wellness of students and their family members and respect for the role of patients in the decision making process
- Ability to work in a remote location from the Health Network to provide independently computer based tele psychiatry services if needed
- Experience or interest working with patients suffering from Eating Disorders
- Experience with, or knowledge and interest, in treating substance use disorder
- Application of evidence based prescribing approach
- Ability to analyze policies, programs, and initiatives to make recommendations for quality improvement

- Provides outpatient adult, and occasionally adolescent, psychiatric evaluations.
- Provides ongoing mental health care, including medication management and brief psychotherapy.
- Responsible for ordering and interpreting tests and documenting in the electronic health record.
- Assesses patient progress and modifies treatment plans accordingly.
- Institutes emergency hospitalization for patients in crisis for their safety and stabilization when needed.
- Involves the family or a supportive person into the student’s health care if needed.
- Provides tele psychiatry services remotely, when needed, via video/phone conferencing with the patient/their family.
- Promotes the equality of the mental health care for all patients.
- Respects and supports diversity and equality of the health care.
- Follows guidance for standard of care as well as guidance for documentation of provided care.
- Other job duties as assigned.
- Works with other psychiatric providers and support staff to provide optimal patient care.
- Consults with psychiatrists, medical providers and counselors at the CSU Health Network, CSU campus and community entities as needed. May consult and coordinate with student’s family as appropriate.
- Participates in integrated health care delivery systems by seeking collaboration and being an active member of teams.
- Participates in required meetings, educational activities and continuing education to maintain license and certification.
- May serve as a clinical preceptor for Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant students as time allows.
- Participates on CSU Health Network and University committees as appropriate.
