We are looking for a responsible Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our inpatient pain management/substance use disorder team to support the doctor’s work and actively facilitate patients’ recovery. This is a part-time position of 1-2 weekends per month of shift/call. You will apply medical techniques and principles under the direction of a physician and you will deal with a diverse set of patients (post-op pain, cancer-related pain, abdominal pain, substance use disorder patients, chronic pain, etc.) in an inpatient setting offering them care and encouragement.

Responsibilities
- Assess patients’ health and their pain management/substance use disorder needs and aim to fulfill them as completely as possible.
- Cover 2 hospitals (AdventHealth Porter and Castle Rock) via phone and rounding in person on Saturday & Sunday only, and possibly during the week at either Porter or Castle Rock from approximately 8:30am to 12:30pm.
- Write consult history & physical exam notes, follow-up notes, and enter appropriate orders.
- E-prescribe 1-2 weeks of prescriptions on discharge.Inform physician on back-up call about any concerns or questions that might arise.
- Review patient histories identifying conditions and formulate a plan for pain or addiction management.
- Monitor patients’ progress and write current and daily notes documenting treatments, surgeries or other medical events in Epic.
- Be available by phone 24/7 for any patient or nursing urgencies on the weekends and from 8:00 am to 1pm on any picked-up weekdays with option for further reimbursement to cover phone calls until 5pm from home.
- Cultivate a climate of trust and compassion for the patients.
- Be a contributing part of the medical team and all caregivers seeing each patient.
- Comply strictly with medical care regulations and safety standards.
- Collaborate effectively with team members of various specializations.
Skills
- Proven work experience as a physician assistant or nurse practitioner.
- Knowledge of medical guidelines and procedures regarding examination, treatments, and recovery.
- Familiarity with advancements in medical technology and current know-how.
- Problem solving skills and ability to multi-task.
- Caring and compassionate, but able to set boundaries.
- Team player with good communication skills.
- Prior experience in pain management, psych/mental health, addiction, orthopaedics, preferred but not required.New grads welcome to apply.
- BSc/MA in Physician Assistant Studies, Health Science or Medical Science or equivalent NP degree.
Job Types: Part-time and/or Contract. Potential of transitioning to full-time if available.
Pay: Starting amount at $80.00 per hour for training and weekday rounding.
Weekend call: $250 flat rate for providing 24/7 phone coverage, with additional $10 per phone call addressed, $40 per new patient consult, and $20 per follow-up patient. Average total ranges from $1,000-$1,300 per weekend (phone coverage: Friday @ 5pm to Monday @ 7am and hospital rounding on Saturday & Sunday), depending on number of patients seen and phone calls addressed. Weekdays available if interested.
