Job Overview

Carewell In East Orange New Jersey if seeking an experienced Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for a Part Time up to 6 shifts per month position.

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Emergency Department on a part-time basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic, fast-paced environment, providing critical patient care and supporting the healthcare team with advanced clinical expertise. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of emergency medicine protocols, EMR systems, and acute care procedures, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through precise assessments and effective treatment plans.

Duties

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including physical examinations and vital sign monitoring, to determine urgent and emergent healthcare needs.
  • Perform diagnostic evaluations utilizing EMR/EHR systems, interpret diagnostic tests, and collaborate with physicians for appropriate clinical decision-making.
  • Administer medications, injections—including Botulinum toxin treatments—and manage airway or ventilator support as required in critical situations.
  • Execute procedural skills such as suturing, phlebotomy, and aseptic techniques while adhering to HIPAA regulations and safety standards.
  • Manage acute pain and infectious disease cases, including triage in emergency settings, utilizing advanced clinical knowledge of physiology and pathology.
  • Document patient encounters accurately in electronic health records, ensuring compliance with CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding standards, and billing procedures.
  • Support hospital operations by participating in discharge planning, data collection for clinical research or trials, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across various specialties including ICU, trauma centers, or urgent care units.

Skills

  • Proficiency in EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for efficient documentation and data management.
  • Extensive experience in emergency medicine environments with Level I or Level II trauma center exposure preferred.
  • Critical care experience including ventilator management, airway management, and ICU procedures.
  • Knowledge of hospital protocols related to infectious disease care, hospice & palliative medicine, and acute care treatments.
  • Skilled in performing advanced procedures such as catheterization, spinal taps, or radiation therapy support when applicable.
  • Familiarity with CPT coding and ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9) for accurate medical billing and documentation purposes.
  • Strong client communication skills with the ability to educate patients on health coaching, medication administration, and post-discharge care plans.
