Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Pre-admission Testing Registered Nurse (RN)/Preoperative RN to join our dedicated healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for preparing patients for surgery and procedures by conducting comprehensive assessments, ensuring accurate documentation, and coordinating care to promote optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough pre-admission assessments including vital signs, medical history, medication reconciliation, and physical examinations to evaluate patient readiness for surgery or procedures.
  • Educate patients about their upcoming procedures, including preoperative instructions, fasting guidelines, and post-operative care plans to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Collaborate with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care plans and communicate pertinent information effectively.
  • Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as HST to document assessments, prepare medical records, and ensure accurate data entry in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Screen patients for potential risks related to anesthesia or surgery by reviewing medical histories including ICD-10 coding and laboratory results; identify patients requiring additional evaluation or intervention.
  • Assist with specimen collection/processing, IV insertions, venipuncture, and aseptic techniques during preoperative procedures when necessary.
  • Monitor patient vital signs and conduct physical examinations while assessing physiological status to detect any contraindications or complications prior to surgery.

Requirements

  • Valid RN license in the state of practice with current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; ACLS certification preferred for acute care settings.
  • Proven experience in medical-surgical nursing, outpatient clinics, or hospital environments with exposure to preoperative or perioperative care.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation methods relevant to surgical preparation.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as HST or gGastro; experience with documentation standards including ICD-9/ICD-10 coding is highly desirable.
  • Ability to perform patient assessments accurately while demonstrating excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs is a plus; familiarity with infection control protocols and aseptic techniques is essential.
  • Critical care experience including ICU or emergency room background is advantageous; knowledge of trauma medicine or Level I/II trauma center protocols preferred.
  • Skills in medication administration, IV infusion, tube feeding management, and basic life support are required; additional competencies in suturing or laboratory experience are beneficial. Pay: $55.00 – $59.00 per hour
