SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Physician Assistant provides primary care to our PACE participants. They will provide quality medical diagnostic services and treatment, and participates in medical quality improvement programs
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Sees NEMS’ patients as scheduled by the department.
- Obtains medical history and performs patient examinations, evaluations, and counseling within the limits of training and protocols.
- Performs routine screening physical exams. Does follow-up evaluations of patients, especially those with stable but chronic conditions.
- Consults with supervising physicians or other providers as necessary. Communicate with primary care physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
- Complete appropriate documentation of all evaluations, care, and services rendered in the medical record.
- Provides acute care as specified in the protocols.
- Provides follow-up and health maintenance care including the appropriate adjustment of medications in accordance with established protocols or in response to specific instructions from the supervising physician.
- Prescribes medications to accomplish the plan of treatment
- Provides high quality medical services in a culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate manner.
- Participates in the department’s required Quality Improvement Program and activities.
- Complies and participates in all governmental and other funding agencies’ requests.
- Appropriately refers patients to specialists and other ancillary services as necessary.
- Discharges patients after medical visits are completed.
- Assists supervising physician or clinic director or medical director on projects as requested.
- Participates in medical outreach programs such as health fairs, media (TV and radio programs) etc.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Have excellent customer service and bedside manner.
- Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful completion of an accredited program and NCCPA National Certificate Exam.
- Renew the national certification with NCCPA every two years and successfully complete the Physician Assistant Recertifying Examination every six years.
- Licensed by the State Medical Board of California and the Medical Act Provisions.
- Current documentation of Basic Life Support, and First Aid is required.
- Minimum one year of experience working with a frail and/or older adult population preferred.
LANGUAGE:
- Must be able to fluently speak, read and write English.
- Fluent in Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin), Vietnamese, Spanish and other languages may be required depending on location.
- Fluency in other languages are an asset.
STATUS:
This is an FLSA exempt position.
This is an OSHA high-risk position.
