Full Job Description
The Psychiatrist or APP for the Urgent Psychiatric Clinic will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients presenting to the urgent psychiatric clinic. This position involves medication management of patients with array of mental health and substance use diagnoses. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of diagnostic criteria and psychopharmacology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation: Conduct face-to-face assessments to evaluate a variety of mental health and substance use disorders in individuals of all ages experiencing a crisis.
- Diagnosis and Treatment Planning: Utilize the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) criteria to diagnose conditions and develop an individualized, prescriptive treatment plan to fit each patient’s needs.
- Crisis Intervention & Stabilization: Assist with immediate psychological support and interventions to stabilize patients in acute distress, including de-escalating high-stress situations and assessing suicide and other safety risks.
- Pharmacotherapy and Psychotherapy: Prescribe and manage medications (pharmacotherapy) as part of the treatment plan. This includes medication assisted treatment for substance use disorders.
- Care Coordination and Referral: Coordinate patient care with primary care physicians, other specialty providers, and community resources. Facilitate referrals to appropriate long-term care or arrange admission to inpatient facilities when necessary.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with urgent psych / crisis / withdrawal management staff, clinical coordinators, case managers, therapists, nurses, and family members/caregivers to ensure integrated and comprehensive care, and to provide coverage in all acute care service areas when needed.
- Participates in multidisciplinary focus groups, committees, and task forces charged with researching and improving clinical practices and developing or updating programs and business processes.
- Responds effectively to consumer needs and problems, initiates and maintains positive interactions, and provides timely responses to phone calls, emails, and other requests.
- Documentation: Maintains accurate and detailed clinical records, progress notes, and other documentation required for the client medical record. Completes documentation in compliance with CFHW policies
- Consultation and Training: Provides psychiatric consultation to other clinicians, agencies, or trainees in the acute care setting.
Essential Functions for All Psychiatric Providers
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and provide psychoeducation to patients and families.
- Complete clinical documentation in compliance with CFHW policies.
- Order and monitor laboratory tests as clinically indicated.
- Serve as a clinical leader within treatment teams, offering consultation and guidance to staff and trainees.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to support comprehensive care.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Escalate high-risk cases and seek appropriate consultation.
- Utilize technology for communication and task management.
- Adhere to HIPAA and all applicable data privacy regulations.
- Meet individual and departmental performance goals.
- Demonstrate CFHW’s mission, vision, and values through conduct and compliance with policies.
- Maintain effective communication with staff, clients, and partners.
- Ensure regular attendance
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What We Need
Qualifications MD/DO:
- M.D. or D.O. degree (or international equivalent) with ACGME accredited residency training program in general psychiatry.
- Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Colorado.
- Must be ABPN board eligible. Boar certification is desired but not required.
- DEA certification required.
Qualifications NP/PA:
- Education: Master’s degree or higher from an accredited PMHNP or PA program.
- Licensure: Current, unrestricted Colorado state license as a PMHNP or PA.
- Certification: Board Certification (e.g., ANCC for PMHNP, NCCPA for PA).
- DEA Registration: Current DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances.
