Position: Physician Assistant

Department: Trauma and Acute Care Surgery

Schedule: Full Time

Location: Boston, MA

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a highly motivated Physician Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic Trauma and Acute Care Surgery team at a busy Level I Trauma Center within a respected safety-net hospital. This is an exceptional opportunity to provide meaningful inpatient surgical care to a diverse and high-acuity population, while contributing to the training and education of surgical residents

Under the general supervision of a Chief Physician Assistant, the Physician Assistant is responsible for providing varied medical services, which may include: obtaining complete medical history and performing a physical examination; ordering and interpreting laboratory tests and imaging studies; formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan; prescribing and/or dispensing medication; assisting in surgery or other invasive procedures; rounding on admitted patients; counseling patients and families, and other patient care duties.

May be involved with a patient’s medical care in any role which the attending physician deems proper and consistent with applicable law, hospital regulations, delineation of privileges, and the Physician Assistant’s training, knowledge, skill, and experience.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to adult inpatients with traumatic injuries and acute surgical conditions.

  • Collaborate closely with trauma surgeons, surgical residents, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.

  • Participate in daily rounds, perform procedures within scope, and support patient care transitions.

  • Provide weekend coverage on a rotating basis with other advanced practice providers. No holiday shifts or overnight call required.

  • Engage in a vibrant academic environment with opportunities to contribute to the education of surgical residents and medical students.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Qualified Physician Assistants will hold at least a Bachelor’s degree and must be a graduate of a PA Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc. (ARC-PA) or its predecessor

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Graduate of an accredited PA program; current PA licensure in MA

  • NCCPA certification required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of surgical or inpatient hospital experience preferred; new graduates with strong clinical backgrounds and interest in trauma/acute care are welcome to apply.

  • Commitment to serving underserved populations and working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Successful candidates will be self-directed, demonstrate initiative and professionalism, and exercise expert clinical judgment to function independently in this role.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English are required in order to communicate complex medical information to collaborators such as patients and their families, physicians, staff, and community health workers.

  • Physician assistants who have exceptional problem solving and conflict resolution skills are preferred.
