We are seeking a Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner to join our Comprehensive Cancer Center team, a collaborative and integrative group with radiation oncologists, palliative care, genetics, mental health, and a survivorship clinic run by an APP. The Cancer Center is located in our clinic and specialty center, located in downtown Minneapolis, and opened in March 2018; a first-class facility with the newest linear accelerator in the city.
In this role, it is necessary to demonstrate sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assessment of designated patients referred to infusion center for administering intravenous medication
  • Manage chemotherapy following established standards and practices
  • Work closely with physicians in the Oncology Clinic, care for patients undergoing radiation as part of their cancer treatment
  • Troubleshoot care of patients experiencing side effects from radiation
  • Provide direct primary and acute care services to adult and/or pediatric patients as part of the primary care inter-disciplinary team in the ambulatory department
  • Perform initial and on-going assessment of patients’ medical, physical and psychosocial status
  • Obtain and evaluate health and medical history; perform physical exam, conduct preventive screening procedures based on age and history
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation of observations, interventions, plan of care, referrals and follow-up
  • Formulate appropriate differential diagnosis based on history, physical examination and diagnostic testing
  • Identify needs of the individual, family or community and develop a plan of care and/or education plan
  • Order, conduct, and interpret diagnostic tests, therapeutic treatments; may prescribe, administer and dispense therapeutic devices and legend drugs
  • Make appropriate referrals to other health professionals and community agencies
  • Reassess and modify the plan as necessary to achieve medical and health goals
  • Contribute to on-going medical and nursing staff teaching programs
  • Develop a patient education plan relevant to the condition and patient/ family needs
  • Foster a service that is consistent with the family-centered care and shared management philosophy of the department
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment
  • Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a department/ unit team inter-departmentally to facilitate the department’s/ unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives
  • Attend cancer care and tumor conferences
Our Cancer Center has long-standing partnerships with the Metro Minnesota Community Oncology Research Consortium (a nonprofit research program sponsored by the National Cancer Institute), participating community hospitals and clinics, and with the Cancer Trials Support Unit. As a result of these affiliations, patients receive access to the newest therapies available for cancer treatment, symptom management, and cancer prevention.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant studies from an accredited program
  • Current license to practice (or ability to obtain license) to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant in the State of Minnesota
  • Previous experience as an Oncology APP
License/ Certifications:
  • For APRN candidates: Must obtain Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP) within 2 years (24 months) of date of hire.

SALARY Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant pay is based on years since licensure and specialty area. The grid below represents current pay rates for this position:
