Pay: $67.00 per hour

Position Summary:

Participates and contributes to healthcare innovation projects as directed by leadership, including both field, dispatch, and administrative work. Contributes to formal development of PA workflow within the City of San Diego EMS system. Supports Community Paramedics (CP) in medical case management or intervention to frequent 9-1-1 callers or other patient/client cohorts. Supports existing health services. provides integrated care in partnership with other community services. Extends access to care in underserved and general populations, including primary care, public health, prevention and wellness, mental health, social services and performs other duties as required

Responsibilities:

  • Administers patient care consistent with EMS and PA protocols, upon development and implementation
  • Serves as resource to CPs in screening, triage, and coordination of health and social services.
  • Observes, records and reports findings to appropriate physicians and oversight
  • Conducts patient education
  • Coordinates appointments and follow-up with physicians and services
  • Develops and completes appropriate documentation
  • Monitors communication equipment to maintain contact with Communications Center
  • Attends meetings as requested
  • Performs administrative activities related to healthcare innovation
  • Attends continuing education (EMS and non-EMS) as assigned
  • Exercises compliance with patient privacy laws
  • Exercises responsibility with company time in an autonomous environment
  • Maintains a clean, professional appearance
  • Maintains a courteous, professional, and ethical behavior while working cooperatively with other members of the health care system, co-workers, other systems of care, and the public
  • Cleans and maintains equipment utilized
  • Cleans and maintains own office environment
  • Maintains records of vehicle, equipment, supplies, training and daily work
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • A minimum of 1 year experience as a paramedic. Experience in a 911 setting preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year experience working as a paramedic in San Diego County or completion of 911 field training program within one year of hiring
  • Must be licensed as a Physician Assistant and qualified to work in the State of California.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a PA
  • Current BLS Provider certificate
  • Completion of Resource Access Program/Community Paramedic Training Program within 6 months of hire
  • Completion of Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) within 6 months of hire or when the class is available
