Job SummaryThe Technical Instructor VI will perform instructional duties for the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP)/ Bachelor and Master of Science Physician Assistant Curriculum, which will include classroom/lab, multiple preparation hours, and office hours for assisting students one-on-one, as required. Plan (training schedules), refine, and assist in presenting approximately 93 didactic semester hours for Bachelor and Master of Science Physician Assistant education in the IPAP. Each semester is approximately 16 weeks.

Duties:

  • Develop, evaluate, modify and instruct the first phase in graduate level classes at MEDCoE in fundamentals of clinical medicine and surgery, which includes human anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, laboratory testing, diagnostic testing, patient dispositions and patient education and PA professional issues.
  • Assist in development and updating instructional materials (such as lesson plans, student notes with illustrations, visual aids, and examinations) incorporating current technical subject matter, DoD doctrine, policies, guidelines, lessons learned, and current work practices into the instructional materials and training program in accordance with the Program of Instruction, policies, and guidelines provided. Deliverables: lesson plans, student notes with illustrations, visual aids, and examinations, Facilitator Guides, Student Guides, Course materials – PPT, Adjunctive references.
  • Review and revise course materials to include the latest findings in the field to ensure that the graduate students are kept up to date with current and accurate information. Course materials include Lesson Plans, Facilitator Guides, Student Guides, Course Materials, PowerPoints, Job Aids.
  • Develop test questions/student assessments for both Phase 1 and Phase 2 examinations in compliance with established guidelines of the Testing Committee Policies.
  • Maintains and updates a test item databank to reflect currency of material.
  • The CSP shall review class content and teaching aids on a regular basis to ensure accuracy and timeliness of presented material as well as adherence to current practice guidelines and recommendations.
  • Identify potential physician assistant-related research topics and ideas and assess the feasibility of each project. Supervises the development of protocols, collection of data and evaluation of results for conducting research involving the physician assistant profession and the preparation of articles and/or papers for presentation and/or publication in various professional.
  • Keep informed of new procedures, techniques, and information within the PA profession.
  • Conduct classroom and laboratory instruction (i.e., teach) of any/all lesson topics in the courses using the approved course materials and methods that are likely to ensure that students meet established learning objectives.
  • Prepare samples, set up, and administer/conduct laboratory exercises.
  • Assist in development, set up, administer, and grade written and laboratory practical examinations as well as perform appropriate statistical analysis on exam results in accordance with the policies and guidelines provided. Instruction may be conducted in a virtual environment over the internet using programs such as Blackboard, Microsoft TEAMS, ZOOM, or other virtual enhancement programs. This may require monitoring and responding to questions or message board information/requests.
  • Assist in conducting approximately 80 hours of practical exercises in clinical practice to clued physical examination techniques, special patient model exercises, outpatient medical patient shadowing, and emergency medicine and surgical skills practicums. Practical exercises are conducted each semester to reinforce didactic instruction.
  • As an authority in physician assistant clinical practice the CSP shall ensure that all appropriate university requirements are met IAW policies and guidelines of the affiliating university and that the content meets standards prescribed by the ARC-PA and PAEA.
  • Ensure that the appropriate university requirements are met to maintain the contractual agreement with the affiliate university and to meet accreditation standards as established by the ARC-PA.
  • Laverage emerging technologies and evidence-based medical literature in the presentation of the classes to facilitate student understanding and mastery of the class content.
  • Provide SME consultation for Computer-/Web-Based Training (CBT/WBT) instructional designers and programmers developing interactive multimedia.
  • Provide SME/scientific technical support that is technically accurate, insightful, and creative; contribute to technical scientific discussions in a manner that is positive contribution to group/teamwork.
  • Perform course administrative functions including maintaining student and course administrative records, organizing training materials, and identifying supply needs.
  • Provide academic counsel and Phase 2 Management for 8-12 graduate students in IPAP/ Bachelor and Master of Science Physician Assistant Curriculum minimum. Provides input to faculty deliberations regarding the change of students’ status (remediation, retention, or release).
  • Perform typical laboratory training logistics activities such as using supplies and equipment in accordance with guidance and budget, maintaining the order and cleanliness of the training facility as needed, and assisting with setting up and moving laboratory furniture and equipment within the facility and/or to Camp Bullis.
  • Submit Monthly report.
  • Other duties as assigned.

:

  • Minimum of Doctoral Degree in Physician Assistant Studies
  • Minimum of master’s degree in physician assistant studies
  • Current certification/licensure as Physician Assistant (e.g. NCCPA certification)
  • Clinical Experience: Minimum 10+ years of clinical practice as Physician Assistant required.
  • Teaching Experience: 10+ years Teaching, mentoring, or precepting experience minimum.
  • National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) site code.
  • Member of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) and accredited by AAALAC International.
  • Active affiliation with NAEMT and a training background in Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3).
  • Complete a Workplace Occupational Health Assessment with a licensed medical and/or occupational health provider.
  • Previous experience as instructors (one year minimum) or graduates of the TCMC course.
  • Have served in current theater of operations (For example: CENTCOM, AFRICOM) and/or served in a medical role I or II assignment totaling at least 24 months and this requirement is only applicable to PA, M.D., and D.
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Good interpersonal relationship skills necessary for establishing and maintaining a good learning and working environment with students and faculty.
  • Capable of learning and utilizing current and emerging military and commercial technology.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Windows 10 and Microsoft Office suite and incorporated programs to include Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Access; be proficient with photo editing software (specific items may vary).
  • Able to troubleshoot basic computer hardware and software required for services being provided under each individual task order.
