Full Job Description

In collaboration with or under the supervision of the Rural Health Clinics Medical Director, provides continuing individualized age-specific primary health care services for patients and families , focusing on wellness and health promotion, including education. Provides supervision and leadership for the operation of the rural health clinics in the absence of the Medical Director. Participates in staff evaluations. Annually reviews polices and procedures forthe clinic. Supports and follows hospital safety and health rules, personally intervenes in the leadership, behavior and training of staff in regards to safety and health policies and practices. Reviews specific safety and health expectations for and with clinic staff. Follows the Rural Helath Clinic Program requirements/responsibilities for mid-level providers in an RHC setting.
  • Provides comprehensive primary care within the regulatory guidelines set by the State of Michigan and Rural Health clinic code of Federal Regulations, including performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and prescribing and administering medical treatment and medications. Collaborates with the Medical Director in order to plan and coordinate patient care.
  • Maintains a system for accurately recording and reporting patient conditions in the medical record; assures medical records are transferred as required when patients are referred; and participate in annual review for quality and completeness. Actively participates in the clinic’s advisory board.
  • Participates in the development, execution and annual review of the written policies/procedures covering the services provided; participates in an annual review of patient health records and utilization review studies of Clinic services.
  • Assess and develops staff in-services according to identified needs. Attends meetings, workshops, reads journals, etc. to further develop professional and management skills. Implements orientation for new staff members.
  • Identifies problems and creates solutions for operational and clinical issues. Maintains collegial relationships with other hospital department managers and physicians; accepts and responds to constructive criticism. Supports administration and medical staff.
  • Represents ERMC and the rural health clinics in hospital and community events to promote the image of the clinic, and make the clinic a better place in which to work. Suggests and assists in the development of new/or expanded services to better serve our communities.
  • Develops annual goals and monitors progress towards completion. Is a role model for clinic staff in clinical and professional interactions. Sets clinic tone for staff by example.
  • Consults and instructs patients regarding care to facilitate recovery and promote patient self-care at home. Encourages wellness and restoration through continued follow-up care. Maintains patient privacy and organizational confidentiality in all communications, records, and patient care (ERMC Policy 1.14 Code of Ethics).
  • Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient’s age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care and refers patients for specialized care, evaluation, and diagnostics based upon an identified need.
BLS required upon hire and maintained throughout employment. ACLS required within 90 days of employment and maintained throughout employment. PALS preferred. Must be licensed to practice in the State of Michigan. A graduate from an accredited program for physician assistants. Must be insurable for professional liability. Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to make quality independent decisions. Masters degree in health related field required. Prior rural health clinic experience preferred.
