Position Overview:
Henry Ford Health is seeking a dedicated and skilled Physician Assistant (PA) to join our busy General Surgery team. This position is open to new graduates and offers the opportunity to participate in a wide range of surgical procedures, both in the operating room and at the bedside. The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Weekend requirement – No.
OR Time – Variable. Overall, approximately 10% of time.
Traveling to other sites – not typical; however, this may arise in the future.
On Call – On call for OR 1st assisting, approximately 4 times per month and does not include weekend and holiday requirement.

Provides direct diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services under the supervision of a physician. Responsibilities: Obtains patient history and performs assessment. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures.| Provides and documents direct treatment and management of health conditions.| Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.| Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations and care. Licensure / Certification / Registration: – BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. – Physician Assistant credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Verified by local Credentialing Office. – Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board Physician Assistants Task Force obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Verified by local Credentialing Office. – Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. Education: – Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program required. – Master’s degree preferred. Work Experience: – 1 year of experience preferred. #APP
Qualifications:
- PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
- PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
Licensure and Certification
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application)
- National certification as an PA (e.g., NCCPA)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required by American Heart Association.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required by American Heart Association.
- DEA/CSL, required through credentialing.
Experience / Requirements
- 2 years acute care experience (i.e. hospital setting as a PA), preferred.
- OR 1st assist experience as a PA, preferred.
- Must be able to report to OR within 1 hour is called in.
