Job Overview: Physician Assistant – Emergency Medicine

Employer:ERMED, S.C. – Milwaukee’s premier private Emergency Medicine Physician group. Join a dedicated team providing exceptional emergency care across three renowned hospitals in Milwaukee, WI.

  • Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center: A quaternary referral center and one of the busiest ERs in the state.
  • Aurora West Allis Medical Center: A community hospital with a strong focus on OB/GYN care.
  • Aurora St. Luke’s South Shore: A small, lakeside hospital offering unique 1:1 Doc and PA coverage, with stunning views of Lake Michigan.

Position Purpose:The Physician Assistant (PA) provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services to patients under the supervision of a physician. This position involves evaluating patients, interpreting medical conditions, diagnosing, and prescribing appropriate treatments and therapies. The PA will work collaboratively with a healthcare team to ensure high-quality patient care.

  • This position does not have any direct reports.
  • Leadership opportunities available outside of clinical care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Evaluation and Care:
  • Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage both acute and chronic illnesses and conditions.
  • Obtain detailed medical histories and perform physical exams to assess patients.
  • Determine differential diagnoses and prescribe medication, therapy, and treatments accordingly.
  • Procedures and Treatments:
  • Perform emergency medicine procedures.
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies in the relevant specialty, as determined by competency and physician supervision.
  • Adjust patient care plans based on ongoing evaluation of treatments and therapy effectiveness.
  • Patient Education and Counseling:
  • Educate and counsel patients on physical and mental health topics, including diet, preventive measures, disease management, treatment options, self-care, and overall wellness.
  • Guide patients in making informed decisions regarding their care and health practices.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping:
  • Prepare, dictate, and sign patient care plans, progress notes, and summaries according to established guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, ensuring compliance with medical standards and regulations.
  • Collaborative Care:
  • Work closely with the supervising physician and other healthcare team members to determine the best course of action for patient care.
  • Continuously review and update treatment plans based on patient progress and evolving healthcare needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required by the organization’s needs.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Licensing and Certifications:
  • Current Physician Assistant license granted by the State of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Medical Examining Board.
  • Registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for prescribing and administering controlled substances.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification by the American Heart Association.
  • Professional Skills:
  • Ability to function as an effective member of a healthcare team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues and patients.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Pay: $115,000.00 – $150,000.00 per year
