Position Description: Position Purpose

Advanced Practice Nurse

Provides primary or specialty health care services within defined scope of practice in collaboration with a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures.

Physician Assistant

Provides primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures.

Department Position Purpose

Deliver comprehensive, specialty specific health care to pediatric pulmonary patients as directed by a licensed physician and in accordance with policies and procedures. Core Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
• Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
• Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
• Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
• Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
• Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
• Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
• Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
• Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Department Specific Responsibilities

• Examine, treat and document care of patients with pulmonary disorders who are hospitalized. Patient populations include primarily the children with tracheostomies and/or home ventilators but also other children hospitalized in the PICU, NICU, or general inpatient units.
• Over time and with experience, responsibilities will expand to include children who are part of the pulmonary program who are being seen in the EDTC with acute illnesses.
• Teach and educate patient families. Instruct medical students, residents and affiliated health professionals (e.g. nurses, respiratory technicians, sleep technicians, referring providers) in a variety of pediatric pulmonary disorders, procedures and therapies.
• Participate in quality assurance activities within the Pulmonary division.
• Participate in research objectives and activities within the Pulmonary division as appropriate.
• Execute administrative duties applicable to the Nurse Practitioner role within the division.
• Serve on committees within the DOP, CW, or CSG as pertains to the division or for the benefit of the provider’s career goals.

Preferred Schedule: Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours, night & weekend call, with flexibility to accommodate clinical needs.

Position Requirements: Minimum Education:

Advanced Practice Nurse

Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing

Physician Assistant

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies

Prior Experience:
Zero years of experience required

Certifications / Licenses (Must be current and maintained)

Advanced Practice Nurse

• Wisconsin RN license
• Wisconsin Advance Practice Nurse Prescriber License
• Certification as Advance Practice Nurse

Physician Assistant

• Wisconsin PA license
• Certification by NCCPA
