Full Job Description
The Medical Director of the Marquette University Physician Assistant Program advocates for the PA program through their active participation in the program’s organization and administration. The Medical Director has general responsibilities, as assigned and delegated by the Program Director, with the concurrence of the Dean of the College of Health Sciences. The Medical Director contributes to the successful operation of the educational program through curriculum development and review, administration, teaching, admissions, service and collaboration with the program director, faculty and PA students. The Medical Director is assigned an academic faculty rank based on experience but is not eligible for tenure.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teaches didactic and clinical curriculum assigned by the PD and DDE to PA students within the scope of their medical/surgical discipline and expertise. Attends bi-monthly faculty meetings and participates in other assigned committees and program meetings, including accreditation reviews, retreats and faculty development events. Contributes to the development and regular review of the program’s didactic and clinical curriculum and competencies in conjunction with the program leadership, ensuring they meet current PA practice standards. Participates in the admissions cycle yearly by reviewing applications, interviewing applicants and contributing to admissions decision-making. Serves as a collaborating physician and clinical mentor with PA faculty members and students in community health endeavors including free clinics, service projects or clinical research. Acts as a program liaison to assist in negotiating, establishing and maintaining clinical preceptorships on behalf of the program. Celebrants Student success by attending White Coat Ceremony, Graduation, New Student Orientation and selected other program and college promotional events.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- A licensed MD or DO with clinical practice experience.
- Actively certified by an ABMS or AOA-approved specialty board.
- An established record of progressive professional, academic and administrative achievement.
- Prior experience as a medical educator.
- Possesses knowledge and vision about the future of the PA profession with a strong commitment to achieving the Jesuit mission of the Program, College and Marquette University.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience developing and administering clinical education programs in medicine or allied health.
