Rate: 72 to 97/hr

Job Summary

We are seeking Cardiothoracic Physician Assistants (CTPAs) to provide specialized surgical assistance at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center (Milwaukee VAMC). The selected candidates will support cardiothoracic surgery procedures and collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver exceptional care to veterans.

The contractor must propose a minimum of two CTPAs who will undergo credentialing, scope of practice approval, and scheduling as per the requirements of the task order.

Responsibilities

• Assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures as the first or second assistant to the resident or staff physician.
• Conduct pre-operative and post-operative evaluations for patients undergoing cardiothoracic procedures.
• Provide clinical and administrative support to the surgical team, ensuring seamless patient care.
• Document patient progress, surgical interventions, and post-operative care plans in compliance with VA policies.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to optimize patient outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with VA protocols, safety regulations, and ethical medical practices.

· Obtains patient history and performs assessment. Orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic procedures.

· Provides and documents direct treatment and management of health conditions.

· Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options, and community resources.

· Performs preventative health assessments, screening, immunizations, and care.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program.
• Certification:
• Active National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification (Required).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – American Heart Association (Required).
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification – American Heart Association (Preferred).
• Licensure: Must hold an active, unrestricted medical license in at least one U.S. state.
• Experience:
• Minimum one (1) year of experience performing as the first or second surgical assistant in cardiothoracic surgeries.
• Experience working in VA or government healthcare settings is a plus.
• Additional Requirements:
• Valid National Provider Identifier (NPI) registration.
• Must pass exclusion checks against the HHS OIG Exclusion List.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $140,657.00 – $180,127.00 per year
