Join our Endocrinology Team!Position can be between a 0.6 FTE – 0.9 FTE

Job Title: Advanced Practice Clinician – Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Department: Endocrinology

Immediate Supervisor Title: Chief Operating Officer

Hours: Monday – Friday between 7:00 am – 5:00 pm

FSLA Status: Exempt; Salaried position

Fox Valley Surgical Specialists has provided care to our patients since 1970, specializing in the areas of Endoscopy, General Surgery, Gastrointestinal/Colorectal Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Oncologic Surgery, Breast Surgery, Endocrinology, and Endocrine Surgery.

General Summary: The Advanced Practice Clinician will provide patient centered care in a clinic setting according to established scope of practice guidelines and standards of care. You will have the opportunity to expand and grow your skill set by providing in-clinic services and working closely with our Endocrine providers and support team.

Job Description:

General Duties

1. Obtain a detailed history and physical examination of the presenting endocrinology problem

2. Prescribe medical, therapeutic, or corrective measures

3. Recognize and evaluate clinical situations that call for immediate attention of supervising physician

4. Prescribe medications as allowable under Wisconsin Law and Federal DEA regulations

5. Order and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic studies

6. Address and resolve clinical inquiries from patients, office and hospital staff

7. Complete detailed and accurate documentation of patient encounter in a timely manner

8. Provide support on daily and weekend call schedule as assigned

● Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner or physician assistant program.

● BLS/CPR certification at time of hire.

● Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, and general medicine, including management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery – in particular cancer, therapeutics, including pharmacology, counseling techniques, and interpersonal dynamics.

● Ability to perform initial history and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.

● Ability to analyze and interpret data in a meaningful manner.

● Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment e.g., insulin sensors and pumps

● Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes, as well as policies, procedures and protocols for patient care management.

● Ability to maintain detailed medical information in an organized and easily retrievable manner.

● Ability to prescribe various medical procedures, for diagnostic studies and therapeutic modalities.

● Working knowledge of medical terminology.

● Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other health care personnel, and skill at providing clear written, verbal and telephone communication with a wide variety of people.

● Knowledge of all types of treatment and modalities necessary for patient care and well-being, and ability to write orders regarding execution of inpatient, outpatient plans of treatment.

● Ability to maintain good working relationships and communications with physicians and other members of the health care team.

● Knowledge of medical ethics and law practices, pertaining to medical and medical socioeconomics.

● Endocrine nursing experience.

● Skill to operate appropriate medical equipment.

● Knowledge of electronic medical record.

Education: Master’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Sciences, Nurse Practitioner.

Experience: One to three years of experience preferred in an inpatient/outpatient setting or completion of a PA or NP residency program.

Certifications/Licensure: Current PA/NP licensure, DEA license and certification.

● Experience with sterilization and sterile technique

● Epic system knowledge is helpful, but not necessary

Equipment Operated: Standard office and medical equipment.

Work Environment: Position is in a typical medical office and outpatient setting.

Mental/Physical Requirements: Requires sitting and standing associated with a typical medical office environment. Intermittent prolonged standing for operative cases. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics and techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc. Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs.
