Job Title: Advanced Practice Clinician – Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Department: Clinical Services
Immediate Supervisor Title: Chief Operating Officer
Hours: Monday – Friday between 7:00 am – 5:00 pm, with weekend & holiday call rotation (1 in every 7 weekend call)
FSLA Status: Exempt
Fox Valley Surgical Specialists is a rapidly growing, multi-specialty surgical office, seeking candidates for Advanced Practice Clinician – NP or PA.

The Advanced Practice Clinician will provide patient centered care in an office and hospital setting according to established scope of practice guidelines and standards of care. You will have the opportunity to expand and grow your skill set by providing services in clinic, completing hospital rounds, and assisting our surgeons in the OR as needed. You will be working closely with our providers and clinical staff in a multi-specialty clinic setting.
Job Description:
General Duties
1. Obtain a detailed history and physical examination of the presenting general surgery problem
2. Prescribe medical, therapeutic, or corrective measures
3. Recognize and evaluate clinical situations that call for immediate attention of supervising physician
4. Perform minor procedures in clinic setting
5. Prescribe medications as allowable under Wisconsin Law and Federal DEA regulations
6. Order and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic studies
7. Address and resolve clinical inquiries from patients, office and hospital staff
8. Complete detailed and accurate documentation of patient encounter in a timely manner
9. Provide support to physicians on daily and weekend call schedule as assigned
Hospital Duties
1. Perform rounding in hospital as needed
2. Prepare consult cases with review of studies, document history and physical examination
3. Ordering of appropriate medications, testing, consultations, as well as other pre- and post-operative care per physician’s protocol
4. Assist by returning pages from hospital staff and consulting specialists
5. Provide First Assist support in the operating room (intra-operative surgical assisting)
Minimum Qualifications
· Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner or physician assistant program.
· BLS/CPR certification at time of hire.
· Theoretical background in anatomy, physiology, and general medicine, including basics in pulmonary, emergency and critical care medicine, management of common diseases, concepts of medicine and surgery – in particular cancer, therapeutics, including pharmacology, counseling techniques, and interpersonal dynamics.
· Ability to perform initial history and physical examination, identify major medical problems, and formulate appropriate plans of action.
· Ability to analyze and interpret data in a meaningful manner.
· Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment e.g., tissue perfusion measuring devices.
· Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes, as well as policies, procedures and protocols for patient care management.
· Ability to maintain detailed medical information in an organized and easily retrievable manner.
· Ability to perform various medical procedures, for diagnostic studies and therapeutic modalities.
· Working knowledge of medical terminology.
· Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other health care personnel, and skill at providing clear written, verbal and telephone communication with a wide variety of people.
· Knowledge of all types of treatment and modalities necessary for patient care and well-being, and ability to write orders regarding execution of inpatient, outpatient plans of treatment.
· Ability to assess the daily status and progress of patients and report this effectively to the physician in-charge and other medical care personnel associated with the patient.
· Ability to maintain good working relationships and communications with physicians and other members of the health care team.
· Knowledge of medical ethics and law practices, pertaining to medical and medical socioeconomics.
Preferred Qualifications
· Inpatient acute care nursing experience.
· Surgical, HPB (Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary), and/or, Endocrine nursing experience.
· Oncology experience.
· Knowledge necessary for instructing hospital staff, medical students, physicians, nurses and other medical personnel in all aspects of acute and chronic care.
· Skill to operate appropriate medical equipment.
· Knowledge of electronic medical record.
Education: Master’s Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Sciences, Nurse Practitioner, or related degree.
Experience: One to three years of experience preferred in an inpatient setting or completion of a PA or NP residency program.
Certifications/Licensure: Current PA/NP licensure and certification.
Additional Requirements:
· Must be willing to work flexible, variable hours with the ability to change schedule based on business need.
· Locations include (but are not limited to) Appleton and Neenah.
· May require occasional evening and weekend hours beyond the normal workday.
· Must be able to obtain Medical Staff privileges at applicable hospital systems and maintain during employment.

Equipment Operated: Standard office and medical equipment.
Work Environment: Position is in a typical medical office and hospital environment, including operating room.
Mental/Physical Requirements: Requires sitting and standing associated with a typical medical office environment. Intermittent prolonged standing for operative cases. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics and techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc. Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs.
