Position Description:

The responsibilities include initial and updated substance use disorder evaluations, routine follow-up care and individualized medication management. Ensure timely and quality delivery of medical reviews, and support staff clinically and administratively in our world class opioid treatment program – NorthStar.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff and other providers, including consultation, collaboration, or referral.
  • Prescribes medications, treatments, and ongoing individualized medication management.
  • Is philosophically aligned with harm-reduction and medication assisted treatment approaches to substance use disorders.
  • Orders lab and diagnostic tests when appropriate and interprets test results.
  • Maintains and completes legible, accurate, and confidential medical records within 24 hours of patient encounter.
  • Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals and consultations according to Agency, MQAC, and Federal standards.
  • Coordination of care with other providers, counselors and community care providers.
  • Coordinates mental health care needs with their medical/physical care as needed.
  • Maintain competence and comply with agency policies and procedures, as well as regulatory compliance requirements related to medical services.
  • Maintains good working relationships with team members and positive relationships with clients and their families.
  • Maintains professional boundaries with other employees, patients, their families, as well as avoids personal conflicts with the Agency mission and business.

Non-essential Job Functions:

  • Serve as a back-up for other substance use disorder treatment prescribers.
  • Maintain communication and cooperative working relationship both within the agency and community at large.
  • Projects a positive and professional image at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Licensing and Experience:

  • An active, unrestricted MD, DO, Advance Registered Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant License
  • CPR certified
  • One year or more experience in Addiction Medicine preferred
  • Experience working with the aged, the uninsured, the underinsured, individuals with severe mental health disorders, and / or substance use disorders preferred.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain DEA Controlled Substance Prescribing Registration
  • Ability to credential with Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurers
  • Ability to obtain security clearance at local jail

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a wide knowledge base required roles of various personnel and programs in the agency and community.
  • Interpersonal, decision-making, judgment, and communication skills plus medication management and collegial relations with teams.
