U.S. Got People is searching for an Physician Assistant to work Full-Time withing the Orthopedic Department at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

Qualifications of Physician Assistants

  • Degree/Education (5.2.4): Bachelor’s Degree – Graduate from an accredited college or university certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3): None
  • Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instruction. Completion of a fellowship or residency training in Orthopedic Medicine OR Possess a minimum of 2 years fulltime experience within the preceding 3 years working as an Orthopedic Physician Assistant.
  • Board Certification (5.2.6.4.4): Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant as required in the TO.Possess and maintain a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant in any one of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands

Job Duties:

  • Shalll provide services within the scope of the clinical privileges granted by the MTF Director, the applicable duties provided in the basic contract, and the following:
  • Become familiar with the Military/Medical Treatment Facilities formulary. Providers authorized to prescribe pharmaceuticals shall do so according to the availability of drugs listed therein.
  • Provide a full range of Musculoskeletal care as identified below:
  • Examination, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the Musculoskeletal system including:

– Contusions, strains, sprains,

– Sports medicine and related injuries

– Back and neck pain, chronic and acute neuromuscular disease and demyelinating disease

– Nonsurgical musculoskeletal problems (e.g. Rheumatic disease, collagen diseases, foot disorders)

– Peripheral nervous system disorders and myoneural junction disorders (e.g. radiculopathies and myasthenia gravis)

– Generalized conditioning and injury rehabilitation

– Evaluation and management of chronic pain conditions

– Functional capacity testing, evaluation and assessment

  • Perform a variety of orthopedic pre-, intra-, and post-operative duties (e.g., pre-admission patient evaluation and work-up, physical assessment; assist in setting orthopedic instrumentation and equipment, assist with patient preparation to include draping and positioning, first and second assist with all procedures to include tissue retraction, suturing of tissues, cutting of suture, closing of the operative case, application of any appropriate appliance; removal of sutures, case and splint changes, dressing changes with routine wound care as necessary, etc.)
  • Perform evaluation of patient status including participation in daily rounds, evaluation of laboratory parameters, radiological and other diagnostic tests, progress notes and routine orders.
  • Institute admission, in-house transfer and discharge orders, all of which are to be reviewed by the supervising physician.
  • Chart progress, dictate notes, and discharge summaries as necessary.
  • This duty shall involve answering pages/calls from the ER, clinics and the fleet. During this time, the HCW shall be responsible for examination, diagnosis and treatment of disorders involving the Musculoskeletal system.
  • Assist in reviewing consults through our computer referral basis.
