Full Job Description

Overview Pediatric Specialists of Virginia is currently seeking an experienced full-time Orthopedic Physician Assistant. This role is working M-F, between the hours of 8:00AM – 5:00PM supporting our Ashburn location and 1 day in our Fairfax location.

This Physician Assistant will practice medicine under the supervision of the Attending Physician as directed by the appropriate state laws. Exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures in accordance with the Physician Assistant licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice/Protocol for Physician Assistant Communicates effectively and works collaboratively with others. Demonstrates respect for and understanding of other clinical disciplines, and uses an integrated approach to achieve desired patient outcomes. Utilizes evidenced-based standards, guidelines, and protocols for care delivery. Incorporates data and information to continuously improve care and practice. Ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource, and mentor.

Job Description

  • Performs comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies and reviews reports for abnormalities.
  • Interprets and correlates subjective and objective data to formulate a differential diagnosis and establish a working diagnosis.
  • Formulates a treatment plan for the diagnosed conditions within scope of practice. Prescribes drugs, therapy, and durable medical equipment as necessary and as delineated by state law.
  • Exercises judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral or evaluation by the supervising attending or other health care professionals.
  • Conducts hospital rounds with the attending physician and writes orders. Evaluates and clarifies clinical conditions, formulates and implements treatment or therapeutic plan for hospitalized patients. Participates in discharge planning and dictates discharge summaries.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Licensed as a Physician Assistant in the state of Virginia.
  • Minimum of three years of progressive clinical experience with primary care management of patient population.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Basic computer knowledge and skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS preferred.
  • Required Licensure and/or Certification
  • Training specific to specialty (e.g. ACLS, NALS, PALS, ENCC, ATLS, NRP)
  • BLS; ACLS; NCCPA Board Certified. Maintains necessary CME requirements as outlined by the NCCPA. Meets credentialing requirements of Pediatric Specialists of Virginia, Children’s National Medical Center and Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children.
