Summary
Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX) is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for the Section of Hematology/Oncology and the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center (DLDCCC), one of only three National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Texas.
The Classical Hematology APP will play a pivotal role in the DLDCCC for the classical hematology patients. The successful candidate will work closely with our classical hematologists to provide comprehensive care for patients with benign/non-malignant hematological disorders. This APP’s effort will be devoted to patient care in the classical hematology clinics.
Job Duties
- Performs comprehensive health assessments, physical exams. Performs, orders, and interprets diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
- Evaluates and manages on-treatment and post-treatment side effects, offers treatment recommendations and prescribes medications to manage symptoms of treatment; collaborates with infusion center for iron infusion and other treatments as needed to support coordination; plans and implements therapeutic regimens that include both nursing and medical management strategies, including prescription of medications.
- Provides monitoring and continuity of care between visits. Shares responsibility in triaging patients’ calls and messages; communicates with inpatient providers at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center to ensure streamlined care when patients are admitted to the hospital.
- For clinical trial patients, adheres to study-related policies and procedures as outlined in clinical protocol. Performs scheduled study-related visits, study screenings, and toxicity assessments.
- Documents assessments and interventions in the electronic medical record system. Communicates treatment plans with physicians, patients, and their family members.
- Demonstrates knowledge of etiologies, risk factors, pathophysiology, presentation, and epidemiology of medical conditions.
- Participates in chart reviews, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and QA activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education Required: Master’s degree in in Nursing.
- Physician Assistant: Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Experience Required: None required.
- Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), National certification appropriate to role (NP or PA). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
