Full Job Description
We are looking for a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to be primarily responsible for rounding on our hospital patients, examining the patients, prescribing medicines, and ordering diagnostic tests. The PA or NP will also have an assigned clinic day to treat patients in an office setting. The PA or NP will work under the supervision of our physician(s) but may work independently, and consulting with physician(s) when necessary. To be a successful PA or NP, you should be formally educated to exam patients, diagnose illnesses, and provide treatment.
You should be self-motivated, demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and must be dependable. The PA or NP must possess adequate computer skills with the ability to efficiently navigate electronic medical records. Central Texas Heart Center, PLLC utilizes eClinical Works for our EMR and PMDsoft for hospital charge capture. Prior experience working on these two programs is a plus. The preferred candidate will have at least some cardiology experience.
Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Responsibilities:
- Assess the physical and mental condition of the patient by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem focused Interviews, examinations and medical histories.
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests.
- Prescribing medications and suggesting lifestyle changes.
- Educating and counseling patients and their families in the treatment plan.
- Initiate timely consultation and referral when the problem or treatment plan exceeds scope of practice.
- Reviewing and maintaining patients’ medical histories and records and accurately recording patients’ progress and treatment outcomes.
- Assist with admissions and discharges and perform daily hospital rounds.
- Supervision of stress testing in the clinic and hospital setting.
- Assist Physician(s) when on city call Monday through Friday by providing support. There may be an occasion when a weekend is needed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent documentation of interactions or communications with the patient, and/or family.
- Interpersonal skills with patients, family members, physicians and support team members. Ability to communicate clearly to patients concerning their medical conditions, treatment plans and expected outcomes.
- Critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certified.
