Job Summary:
Are you a caring and energetic Medical Assistant looking to make a real impact? If so, we want you on our team! The ideal candidate for the Medical Assistant role will support our dermatology practice by assisting with patient care, managing administrative tasks, and ensuring an efficient workflow for our patients and providers. This role is vital to creating a smooth and delightful experience for everyone who walks through our doors!
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Support:
- Greet patients and escort them to examination rooms.
- Take patient medical histories, record vital signs (e.g., temperature, blood pressure, heart rate), and document any changes in patient health status.
- Prepare patients for dermatologic exams and procedures, ensuring they are comfortable and informed.
- Assist dermatologists during minor surgical procedures, biopsies, laser treatments, and other dermatologic treatments.
- Perform wound care, dressing changes, and suture removals.
- Administer medications or injections under the supervision of a physician (e.g., local anesthetics, corticosteroid injections).
- Prepare and sterilize medical instruments and equipment for dermatology procedures.
- Assist with front office duties as needed, including checking in patients, collecting and verifying insurance and demographic information, and answering phones in a professional manner.
- Communicate pathology, lab, and culture results to patients and provide appropriate education or clarification as needed, following provider’s instructions.
Patient Education:
- Provide patients with post-procedure instructions and skincare guidance, ensuring understanding and compliance.
- Educate patients on proper skincare, sun protection, and other dermatological concerns.
- Answer patient inquiries about treatments, procedures, and dermatological conditions.
Administrative Support:
- Prepare and update patient records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Assist with obtaining prior authorizations for dermatology treatments and medications as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including exam rooms and medical supplies.
Infection Control and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and safety procedures.
- Maintain proper sanitation and sterilization of equipment and instruments.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of previous experience as a Medical Assistant is required.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
- Previous experience in a dermatology practice is a plus.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems; experience with ModMed a plus.
- Scribing experience is a plus.
- Experience with MOHS is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work from 7:30am to 4:30pm Monday – Friday as well as some evenings and Saturdays as needed to accommodate patient appointments.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods and assist patients during exams or procedures.
- Ability to lift and move medical equipment and supplies as needed.
- Manual dexterity to perform clinical tasks and administer treatments effectively.
