Job Summary:
The Physician Assistant (PA) will provide health care services to patients under the direction of a physician. PAs are academically and clinically trained to perform many of the routine but time-consuming tasks that physicians usually do and are accountable for their actions and accountable to their supervising physicians.
Responsibilities:
- Perform physical exams and obtain patient histories for lung/respiratory concerns (e.g., asthma, COPD, pneumonia)
- Order and interpret diagnostics: pulmonary function tests (PFTs), chest X-rays, CT scans, arterial blood gases
- Develop treatment plans and prescribe medications and therapies in alignment with clinician protocols
- Assist in and perform procedures like bronchoscopies, thoracentesis, pleural interventions (depending on scope)
- Provide patient/family education on lung health, smoking cessation, and chronic disease management
- Collaborate with pulmonologists, respiratory therapists, nurses, and other providers to ensure integrated care
- Maintain precise documentation of assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, and procedures in medical records
- Stay current with pulmonary medicine advances, through continuing education and professional development
- May travel to other CLS clinics as needed.

Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Completion of a four-year physician assistant baccalaureate program and a year of clinical training
- Completion of a two-year accredited physician assistant program (which requires two years of undergraduate study) plus two years of clinical training following completion of PA program.
- State accreditation based on certifying exam.
- Continued employment requires 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and passing a recertification examination every six years.
