Full Job Description

SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for assisting supervising physician in surgery but will also provide patient care in a clinic setting for pre- and post- operative patients. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acts as First Assist in surgery at various facilities.
  • Performs history and physical examinations, formulation of care plans, ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests and provides education to patients and their families.
  • Document clinical encounters clearly, precisely and in a timely manner.
  • Works in a collaborative relationship with other health professionals to determine health needs of patient and families. Demonstrates and role models an interdisciplinary collaborative approach to patient care.
  • Required to follow HIPAA and OSHA compliance guidelines at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. COMPETENCIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Graduate of an accredited physician assistant studies program.

CERTIFICATE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current PA license in state of Texas.
  • Current DEA certificate.
  • Current certification as a physician assistant by an approved certifying organization.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write correspondence. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as patient copays/coinsurance, patient payments, and insurance payments. Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics. COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Internet browsers, and e-mail.
