Summary
CHRISTUS Children’s, a world-class 240-bed freestanding children’s hospital in San Antonio, serves as a focal point for pediatric services throughout the community. In 2013, CHRISTUS Health finalized an agreement partnering with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) to recruit, employ, and oversee physicians and advanced practice providers at CHRISTUS Children’s.

The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Baylor College of Medicine – Christus Children’s San Antonio seeks a full-time Advance Practice Provider. The role involves inpatient consultations, care in the Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Program, and ambulatory clinic care. It includes a faculty appointment, competitive salary, and full benefits. The position is Monday-Friday with scheduled phone call coverage during other hours.
Job Duties
Responsibilities include working under the direction of a board-certified physician in Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to provide health care services within scope of practice:
- Performs initial and periodic medical history and physical examinations as part of the support for the inpatient PM&R consult service, the inpatient rehabilitation program, the pediatric PM&R ambulatory clinic, and other multidisciplinary ambulatory clinics as assigned.
- Orders and interprets laboratory and radiographic studies in collaboration with attending physician.
- Prescribes medications and assists with medication management in collaboration with attending physician.
- Performs intrathecal baclofen pump refills and dose adjustments and coordinates the visits for these patients.
- Provides counseling to patients and caregivers on various physical and cognitive impairments, both inpatient and outpatient.
- Documents all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner in the patient’s medical record.
- Collaborates with other specialty services for comprehensive patient care of children with a variety of disabilities including orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery, intensive care, and hospital medicine.
- Attends, participates and contributes to Division meetings, Department meetings, and Inpatient Rehabilitation Program meetings.
- Participates in the development of policies and procedures and quality improvement projects when requested.
- Participates in new service program development when requested.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Required:
- Physician Assistant Candidates: Master’s degree in physician assistant studies. Bachelor’s degree in physician assistant studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at time of graduation.
- Nurse Practitioner Candidates: Master’s degree in nursing.
Certification/Licenses/Registration:
- Physician Assistant Candidates: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board.
- Nurse Practitioner Candidates: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP).
Experience Required: None required.
Specialty certification as required by department.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
