Overall Purpose Of The Job
The Physician Assistant develops and implements the necessary Standard Operating Procedures and Policies, medical plans and protocols, facility requirements, emergency procedures, audits & inspections, quality assurance, and other medical practice management tasks.
We are presently staffing for PRN Physician Assistants to provide casual coverage at one of our industrial client sites in the Port Arthur, TX area. Shift coverage is for Saturdays (7:00AM-3:30PM) and occasional weekdays (7:00AM-5:30PM). Candidates must be local to the area and able to commute.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide medical assessments and health services to employees who become ill or injured at work.
- Stabilize, evaluate and treat emergency patients.
- Take pertinent histories, perform examinations relevant to patient complaints and presentation, and perform routine human resource functions such as physicals, return to work, and fitness for duty evaluations. Assist with coordination of care, physician referrals, transitional duty program.
- Provide medical review of surveillance and immunization records of contracted employees, physicians, volunteers, and other affiliates.
- Order and interpret results of routine laboratory tests, including CBCs, blood chemistries, UAs, and any other pertinent diagnostic labs deemed necessary for evaluation; review and sign all EKG, pulmonary function tests, visual exams and lab tests as required.
- Order and interpret routine radiological studies, pulmonary function tests, and audiograms.
- Aid in the management of occupational case rehabilitation, therapy and return to work in co ordination with the designated ES&H Manager;
- Prescribes medications within the statutory and regulatory standards, limits and conditions for Physician Assistants and within applicable employer policies and procedures. Applies knowledge of pharmacology and evidence-based practice in selecting, prescribing, administering and monitoring the effects of drugs to treat medical conditions or injuries.
- Use the Electronic Medical Records Systems as required and ensure accuracy and maintenance of all medical records. Regular audits are to be conducted on the medical records
- Assess, diagnose, and treat patients presenting at clinic; ensures proper injury care and disease diagnosis, treatment and recovery and requests necessary tests and follow up visits and refer patients to specialists as necessary.
- Establish medical diagnoses and determine a plan of care and treatment; refer patients for appropriate follow-up care when indicated.
- Provide patient healthcare teaching and counseling relevant to presenting problems.
- Document discharge instructions and summarization.
- Monitor the status of Project personnel hospitalized in regional facilities
- Ensure clinic is managed according to the highest quality standards (industry best practices) and complies with Client procedures and applicable health standards;
- Ensure that health care is delivered in accordance with the Contract
- Ensure the main clinic dispensary is properly secured and a pharmacy management program is in place and implemented. Procedure to include both expired scheduled drugs and OTC drugs disposal;
- Coordinate stocking and control of medications and medical supplies;
Other Key Responsibilities
The PA will practice with the supervision of an approved SP, which involves.
- Verify that treatment and acts of delegated prescriptive authority are provided and documented in accordance with agreed-upon clinical practice guidelines.
- Functions of the PA will include but not be limited to those outlined by the supervising physicians or as indicated per the patient’s needs.
- Documentation will include history of presenting illness, detailed review of systems, physical examination, assessment & and plan, discharge instruction and summarization, and prescriptions for medications or medical devices. Orders, test results and interpretation, and consultations requested will also be documented as appropriate.

Required Competencies
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) Program
Required Work Experience
- 3 years of emergency/urgent care experience
- Occupational medicine experience
- Previous experience working with Workers Compensation, DOT, and OSHA Regulated Exams desirable.
Required Qualifications
- Current Texas Physician Assistant license in good standing
- ACLS
- CPR/AED
- ATLS
- BLS
- Mental Health/First Aid Instructor certification
Required Languages
- Excellent written and oral English
