The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant functions as a clinical provider maintaining and promoting the health of the patient requiring acute care. Affects direct patient care according to the nurse practice act of the State of Texas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide medical services to patients, inclusive of all functions necessary to provide medical care under the direction of the physician
- Conducts comprehensive health assessments (initial, ongoing, discharge), identifies normal/abnormal health characteristics, develops plan of care, initiates appropriate interventions, and evaluates care outcomes on defined patient populations(s)
- Performs delegated functions under physician supervision, such as differential diagnosis, use of prescriptive authority, and treatment according to practice guidelines, protocols, and/or standing orders. Accepts accountability for outcomes in health care
- Uses critical thinking skills and clinical judgement to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act. Collaborates with the Physician and healthcare team members to manage/coordinate patient care
- Record accurate consultation data in patients’ records
- Charting in the patient’s medical record is routinely to be completed on the same day as the patient’s visit
- Instigate necessary invasive and non-invasive diagnostic tests or investigations and interpret findings/reports
- Provide safe, evidence-based, cost-effective, individualized patient care
- Contribute to the practice achieving its quality targets to sustain the high standards of patient care and service delivery
- Work collaboratively with colleagues within the practice
- Follow all internal policies and procedures; be accountable for completion of all operational tasks according to departmental guidelines to ensure appropriate clinical processing/documentation
- See patients in a timely and efficient manner, stay reasonably on time for scheduled appointments in practice throughout the day, unless exceptional circumstances occur
- Maintains current licensure and credentials. Remains current in practice
- Responds and comply to requests for information including sending faxes and e-mails
Report statistics as required
- Protects patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records in accordance to policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements
- Follows all safety rules on the job. Reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the work place
- Travels as necessary to other facilities
- Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of computer and relevant software applications
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word & E-Clinical
- Excellent written and verbal communication, teaching ability and good telephone skills; Possesses appropriate communication skills to practice collaborative nursing
- Excellent, polished patient interaction skills. Ability to communicate professionally with patients
- Ability to adequately diagnose, plan and implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient condition
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, and general public
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, their families, and staff members
- Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and /or the patient’s condition changes
- Ability to adapt with flexibility: being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace
- Ability to work independently by guiding oneself with little or no supervision, and depending one oneself to get things done
- Ability to organize and coordinate multiple tasks is required
- Must be professional, flexible, caring, and compassionate and exhibit a congenial and sensitive attitude toward patients
- Must have a high level of energy with the ability to adjust to any justifiable pace
- High stress tolerance: accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations
- Energetic with a desire to learn and develop new skills
- Compliance with facility policies and procedures
- Has self-control to maintain composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in difficult situations
- Strong attention to detail: being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in nursing
- Nurse Specialization Diploma
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English
LICENSURE:
- Registered Nurse with Current Texas license
- Recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or recognized by the Texas Medical Board as a Physician Assistant (PA)
- Prescriptive authority privileges through the State of Texas
- BLS, ACLS
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a reliable transportation for traveling if necessary
- Flexible scheduling may be required to meet company needs
Compensation to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
