Summary

A licensed and credentialed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NP/PA) provides diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and follow-up patient care for patients in the Rheumatology Practice at BCM (Baylor College of Medicine)

Prior Rheumatology /infusion experience and knowledge of biologic immunomodulators welcome

The NP/PA provides age and specialty appropriate medical care at the level of training achieved conforming to the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE) and the Texas Board of Medical Examiners rules and regulations as well as all federal, state or local laws, affecting the NP/PA’s current area of practice.

Job Duties

  • Effectively identifies, evaluates, and addresses acute and chronic problems and disease prevention and health promotion issues of the patients while administering quality patient care.
  • Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with physicians in the Rheumatology group
  • Responsible for follow-up care of chronic disease and treatment of acute and chronic healthcare issues of clinic patients including walk-in or same-day urgent visits.
  • Responsible for communicating test results and recommendations to patients and/or their caregivers.
  • Responsible for Biologic medication access support-coordinating care insurance, pharmaceutical companies and patient support foundations
  • Responsive to the questions and concerns of patients and their family members.
  • Educates patients and/or families about preventative care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and or medications.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with state regulatory standards.
  • Facilitates evaluation of records by physicians and peers
  • Prepares clearance letters to referring physicians, for transplant and pre-operative clearance.
  • Prescribes medications in accordance with prescriptive authority granted by the Texas Medical Board/Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Review billing cases log.
  • Coordination of care including infusion medication authorizations/appeals
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude in the workplace and integrate with team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned including triaging MyChart for the group, new patient referrals for urgency and follow up of inpatient consults.
  • Maintain Profession Certification from TMB/Board of PA/NP.

Minimum Qualifications

For Nurse Practitioner:

  • Education Required: Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Experience Required: None required.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), and specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

For Physician Assistant:

  • Education Required: Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies
  • Experience Required: None required.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Physician by the Texas Medical Board. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
