JOB SUMMARY
The Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) functions as a member of a highly skilled acute care medicine team with the goal of providing comprehensive high-quality care to hospitalized patients. The APP works in collaboration with multiple team members including physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, respiratory therapists, dieticians, social work and others. Interdisciplinary care will require collaboration with many specialists including surgery, neurology, nephrology, cardiology, and interventional radiology.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have experience in providing high-quality patient care in various settings.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct thorough patient assessments and develop comprehensive care plans.
- Provide direct patient care, including performing gastric lavage and administering inhalation therapies.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Document patient interactions accurately in electronic health records.
- Perform complete and detailed history and physical examination.
- Perform minor surgical procedures.
- Admission of patients from both ED and outside facilities.
- Collects and interprets lab tests, radiographic studies and other diagnostic tests.
- Establishes medical diagnoses based on chart review, history, physical examination and diagnostics.
- Recommends and initiates therapeutic interventions and medication management.
- Monitors patients’ response to treatments and makes adjustments appropriately.
- Participates and presents patients in daily rounds.
- Communicate with patients and families.
- Collaborates with consultants.
- Communicates effectively with collaborating physician(s) throughout shift
- Maintain accurate, complete, relevant, and timely documentation in the EMR to support patient acuity, severity of illness, and risk of mortality (including but not limited to history and physicals, daily progress notes, and discharge summaries).
REQUIREMENTS
- Active and unrestricted Texas Medical License
- Active D.E.A.
- NCCPA certification for a Physician Assistant or an ANCC or AANP certification for a Nurse Practitioner
- Nurse Practitioners must be permitted to treat all age groups, from infant to geriatric, as per their board specialty, such as Family Nurse Practitioner
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant studies or Master’s of Nursing degree in Nurse Practitioner studies
- Active BLS Certification
- Must be comfortable with all age groups
- EHR proficient
- DOT Certification is/may be required. If you are not currently certified, we will register you for the training at no cost to you
- Must be able to work occasional weekends and holidays, the amount of these shifts will depend on census.
- Experience with initial x-ray interpretation prior to over-read from the Radiologist
- Suturing
- For a Physician Assistant – Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant studies
- Previous experience in an urgent care, ER fast- track or full-service walk in medical clinic preferred.
PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT
- Valid State of Texas Physician Assistant License
- Current Physician Assistant license for State of Texas
- State of Texas Licensure with collaboration to practice in Oregon
- National Board Certification
- Graduate of an Accredited Program
- Ability to conduct utilization reviews effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to patient care.
- Bilingual, advantageous
- BLS, ACLS, PALS required
- Preferred: Membership in professional organization
- Preferred: Two years of inpatient hospital medicine experience
NURSE PRACTITIONER
- Valid State of Texas Registered Nurse License
- Current Nurse Practitioner license for the state of Texas
- State of Texas Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive Privileges
- Congruence between education, current national board certification, licensure, and job description and duties as listed above
- Ability to conduct utilization reviews effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to patient care.
- Bilingual, advantageous
- BLS, ACLS, PALS required
- Preferred: Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
- Preferred: Membership in professional nursing organization
- Preferred: Two years of inpatient hospital medicine experience
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Master’s Degree
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
- Licensed, Certified Nurse Practitioner (Required) (licensed to practice in Texas)
- Nurse Practitioner license for the state of Texas
- National Board Certification
- BLS, ACLS, PALS required.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to stand on non-carpeted, composite surfaces for extended periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl, reach, use fine finger movement, speak and hear.
- Ability to walk long distances on a regular basis. Indoor climate controlled, well lighted and well ventilated. •
- May be subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions needed to be taken is essential.
- Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced and required by patient care and needs of the surgical team.
- Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirement of patient care.
