JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Physician Assistant Salary Block: 505

Reports To: Appropriate Program Director Terms of Employment: 239 Days

Exemption Status: Exempt

Primary Purpose:Provides medical services under the supervision of a physician.

Schedule: 7 am – 6 pm (8 hr shifts/9 hr shifts; Monday-Saturday)

Qualifications:

Education/Certification/License:

  • Certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant training program.
  • Current and valid Texas license
  • Master’s Degree
  • Current certification in CPR

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Must have knowledge in Microsoft Office and patient management software.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with employees, patrons and the general public.
  • Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English

Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of clinical practice experience as Physician Assistant
  • Successful completion of a course of study of at least 12 months, including clinical training or preceptorship, specifically designed for professional-caliber physician’s assistants, or equivalent education and training. The course of study or training must be approved by a nationally recognized professional.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Contributes to physician’s effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; and implementing physician directives.

2. Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.

3. Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.

4. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.

5. Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections.

6. Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information; discussing family planning; providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living; promoting wellness and health maintenance.

7. Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.8. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.9. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.

10. Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.

11. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

12. Develops health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities.

13. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.14. Entering, transcribing, recording, storing or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form.15. Educates patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients’ individual’s circumstances.16. Prescribe therapy or medication with physician approval.17. Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of SISD safety program.18. Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.19. Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.20. Performs any other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.21. Provides optimal customer service to all students, employees, parents, community members and any other stakeholders of the district.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Mental Demands: Reading; ability to perform basic arithmetic; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written in business, educational, and construction terminology); maintain emotional control under stress.

Uses a logical process to gather and analyze information. Weighs alternatives and selects the best one to make. Makes decisions, render judgments, take action or commit to specific assignments, within the framework of the assigned job and work group.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Prolonged use of computer. Works with frequent interruptions . Ability to perform duties requiring prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
