Full Job Description

The Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for providing high level quality medical care to a variety of patients in a private, multi-location pediatric practice. This is an hourly paid position.

  • Education, Licensure, & Certification Requirements:

  • Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas and hold a current certification as a Nurse Practitioner by a nationally recognized certifying body (Pediatric Nursing Certification Board or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board)

  • Physician Assistant (PA) must be licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board and hold a current certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants and have experience in pediatrics/primary care

  • APN and PA must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • Experience Requirements:

  • Three (3)+ years experience in a pediatric setting preferred but not required

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology preferred

  • Knowledge of medical billing coding, including CPT and ICD-10 coding, required

  • Ability to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills to avoid mistakes or misinterpretations

  • Interpersonal skills to support customer service. Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

  • Demonstrates knowledge of current computer systems (Practice Management software and Electronic Medical Records software). Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations for this position; general understanding of HIPAA guidelines

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct clinical care that incorporates comprehensive assessment skills diagnostic ability, critical thinking, independent decision-making, collaborate management of problems and the ability to critically analyze research and evidence based medicine in order to apply in practice

  • Complete patient history and physical examination

  • Diagnose and manage patient care/treatment

  • Order and interpret appropriate labs/diagnostic tests

  • Prescribe medication as warranted and provide education regarding medication

  • Consultation with and referrals to specialists as needed
