We are seeking a Physician Assistant Hospitalist to join our team!!!

Physician Assistant Hospitalist at Baylor Scott & White Orthopedic and Spine Hospital – Arlington:

  • The PA Hospitalist participates in all aspects of care of the hospitalized patient including admissions, discharge, daily rounds and patient education.

  • The PA Hospitalist performs their duties under the guidance and licensure of APN physicians, and in accordance with their legal scope of practice.

  • He/She ensures the delivery of high quality, safe patient care; maintains compliance with professional and regulatory standards of practice, and all Federal and State standards of care.

  • The PA Hospitalist cares for all ages from 2 years to geriatric.

  • This position is assigned to respond to patients presenting to the facility with a healthcare need.

Required Skills:

Education/License:

  • Graduate of a nationally accredited Physician Assistant program
  • State of Texas Physician Assistant licensure
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License
  • Current BLS and ACLS
  • PALS recommended

Required Experience:

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years clinical experience in hospital Medical/Surgical, Emergency Room, or ICU unit.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with care team members, patients, and families
  • Ability to make clinical decisions based on sound professional judgment.
  • Able to prioritize and organize workload to meet needs of patients and unit.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Make daily and weekend rounds on in-patients within the hospitalist service patient population to identify and manage patient needs, and/or provide medical care and care coordination to patients in the Post-Surgical Unit (PSU).

2. Work collaboratively with supervising physicians.

3. Perform examinations; interpret data; order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests; establish diagnosis and treatment plan.

4. Document patient status in medical record; coordinate and complete patient admissions/discharge education to include discharge summary and prescriptions in a timely manner.

5. Consult with patient/family members/guardians regarding discharge plans on a daily basis or as needed and makes appropriate referrals for home care needs.

6. Maintain open lines of communication with surgeons, consulting physicians, allied providers, nurses, case managers, and department personnel and other health care professionals

7. Manage Emergency Room patients including assessing patient needs; ordering and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests; diagnosing illness and disease; prescribing medications; formulating treatment plans; performing non-surgical procedures as well as minor surgical procedures (suturing, casting, etc.); stabilizing and transferring patients requiring higher level of care; consulting and working collaboratively with surgeons and supervising physicians; and admitting, transferring, or discharging patients, as appropriate.

8. Respond to and lead care team management of Rapid Response and Code Blue events.
